Canon 300mm f/2.8 MkII date code location?

Trying to buy a used MkII and need to find out where the date code is located on the lens?

I don’t think they come with them now, I think it’s just the serial number..? Maybe someone else can confirm

I found the date code unreliable - selling OHs 100-400 mk 1 it says it was made in 2008, she bought it in 2005.
