Canon 28-135 IS USM Any good?

Hi

I had the 28-135IS lens and it was a great focal range for me. I had no problems at all with the lens and was getting very good results with it.

With regards to your link - not a bad price, but if you contact Ian (Kerso) on here in the traders classified section he is a good amount cheaper than that
 
i have a £287 voucher for amazon lol it MUST be from them ..

i NEED a wider angle atm my only lens is 50 1.4

i wanted a 28 - 1.8 but cant afford it

i can afford a 28 - 2.8 .. is that worth it or not?
 
Its not an L series lens in terms of build quality etc but IQ seems pretty good on the copy I have, no complaints on either 1D (almost permanently attached) or 5D.

I bought mine 2nd hand off e-bay so not sure if its had a good or bad life but all seems well with it. What I do notice is the IS doesnt seem to freeze the image in the viewfinder like it does on my 70/200 f4 L or make as much noise (less glass to move around perhaps?) where you really notice the image stabilising, I can hear the motors whirring but I'm not absolutely sure its doing its job, but it does seem to stabilise the image somewhat so I think its OK just not quite as definite as with the 70/200 IS (if that makes any sense).

Since the OP is shooting with a 50d, I wouldn't recommend the 28-135 as it's not very wide on a crop camera. The canon 17-85mm IS is comparable in most ways but more suitable for a crop camera IMO.
 
i'm using it on a 500d and love it, a great lens for the money imo.

the IS works well and is a nice usable walkround range. great image quality too.

i was VERY lucky and got a brand new one for £170 but that seems average for a second hand one at the moment.
 
On a 1.6 crop Canon - seriously 17-55 rather than 24-70

You do mean Canon 24-70 yeah? Not Sigma?

Why not look 2nd hand on the for sale forum here, I've made several good buys on here from people who I know are real, not scammers

What stuff do you want to shoot........soz if I missed this before
 
The 17-55 is as sharp all day of the the week as a 24-70. Just cos its not L, doesnt mean its not good.

And a much better length on crop than a 24-70.

portraits so use focal lengths between 30-70 .. meaning the 17-55 is useless lol

but its wrong for what i want to shoot

not just the 24-70 .. theres the 24-105 too .. is F4 not 2.8 but has IS which is 1 stop of light canon claim

But you said the 50mm was too long so you sold it. Using that logic on a 24-70, you'd only use 24-50mm..But then you say portraits are only 30mm onwards.
So you are going to buy a 24-70 or 24-105 but only use 30-50mm of it??

Make your mind up.

NO .. im saying my 50 was too long for indoors and i needed more around 30 .. so the 24-105 is enough .. id be able to use 30ish for full length .. 50 for shoulders ad 70 for headshots

Can we have done with it and close all of them?

The 24-105 may have IS which would account for 1 stop in terms of camera shake, but F/4 has the same field of focus be it with IS or without and that's not enough for portraits in a number of situations.
 
yes close them all as i have a 7D and i have a 24-105 im happy got what i need end of :)

now please stop ridiculing me
