Hi
Ive been into my local LCE today and they have this lens (Canon 28-135 IS) at £149.99 (second hand obviously). Ive always noticed their prices seem to be quite high but this seems pretty reasonable, i didnt have my camera with me to have a play or have a look at it.

What are your opinions on this lens in general? I currently have a Sigma 18-200 OS, 70-300 APO and Nifty Fifty. I'm going to get a 70-200L later in the year.

The reviews ive seen say this lens is pretty good for the money it just seems a bit cheap for this shop.

Should i keep my money or get it?

I have a 28-135 sitting on my shelf. Its been there gathering dust since I got my 70-200 f4. To be honest with you I'd save my money for the 70-200 if you're already planning on it as a purchase. Coming from 35mm film The 28-135 was a good initial purchase when I moved to digital as I wanted to assess the effect of cropping on focal length. After I worked out what range I wanted I found the lens quite disappointing in terms of optical quality.

Best regards,
Andy.

I did wonder to be honest, i thought it was cheap for LCE everything else was way overpriced! Thanks

I had this lens for a while as my main lens I i did liked it. I wasnt complaining for its IQ. it was just great. I just swapped it for a faster lens and shorter as I found myself not using it at its maximum focal range. And I think thats a great price specially if lens is in great condition.

The lens certainly looked in very good condition and LCE give 6 month warranty as well i think. Im still undecided may go and have a play with it tomorrow and compare it to the siggy i have. Thanks for the info

I wouldn't bother, it won't be significantly better for IQ than your siggy 18-200 and the lack of the wide end would drive me mental as a walkabout lens. Save the cash for the 70-200.

Thanks, i think its the bargain hunter side of me that went "oooh thats quite cheap!"

I liked the focal range of the 28-135mm lens. Much is said against the rather narrow 28mm end for a 1.6x camera. However it worked quite well for me in conjunction with a wider lens such as the 12-24mm Tokina. I used these two lenses on a 10D and a 350D as my first dual camera/lens setup.

Postings by various owners lead me to believe that there might be some variations in the sharpness of various copies of this lens. Although my copy was pretty sharp; I did need to do some tweaking in PS regarding contrast and sharpness.

The IS is nice but, is an older version. The longest end is fairly slow at f/5.6.

To tell you the truth, I have not used this lens since I bought my 17-55mm f/2.8 IS AND 70-200mm f/4L IS lenses. It seems like eons ago since I shot with the 28-125mm.

I may have a play with it tomorrow but i think i'll put the money towards the L glass im really after. Thanks for the info !

Cheers! its a bloomin expensive hobby this photography lark and surprisingly addictive!! But well worth it
