Hi all,
Looking for some info on the close focus of Canon's 24-70mm f2.8 (not the new mkii).
I am looking at buying this to use primarily for wedding work to go on my 5D mkii as my current option in this range is a Sigma 17-50mm f2.8 on a cropped 60D. Firstly, am I correct in assuming that the Canon on the 5D should give me markedly improved low light performance considering the ISO performance of the 5D?
The next question is that I also use the Sigma (on the 60D) for some product photography - it is well suited with a closest focus of 20cm possible. However, if possible I would like to use the 24-70mm for this work and sell the Sigma (despite my love of it). The specs say though that the closest focus of the Canon setup would be 38cm, but with some reviewers commenting that it is actually more like 20cm for some such reason. Could anybody explain what this reason would be; if it is true for the 24-70mm; and whether I could expect similar results from the Canon vs. the Sigma?
I look forward to responses - many thanks in advance.
