lol no! not quite like that, i just think they look too noisy

5D, 1600 ISO, f1.4, 1/100, no noise reduction.

Free your ISOs ! The 5D loves em :)

Don't be afraid of 800 or even 1600, the key to keep the noise under control is to get the exposure ever so slightly over rather than under, good bright whites just like Duncan's example and the noise just vanishes

If I need to I'll go to the max ISO but I dont like to. I know the 5D can handle it but I am paranoid - I know the noise is there even if it's minimal. Errr and I also have a bad habit of forgetting to check the ISO when I start shooting sometimes. Veeery bad I know but it's one of my little foibles. So when I do a couple of indoor shots at 800 and then run out to do some landscapes I get rather annoyed when I realise half way through that I'm still using 800 :-)

Noooo don't make me do it - not 1600 - I just can't :-)

Going back to your lens selection, the above shot wouldn't have been possible to get with an f4 or even an f2.8 lens ...

50mm 1.2 is my guess...

edit: damn 35mm 1.4 @ 1.4...

Been thinking about a wider prime but worried about soft edges wide open, even on a 1.3 crop... how does it hold up Duncan?

It's a peach, sharp as anything, contrasty, great colour. Hardly leaves my 5D these days.

The 24 1.4 is nice as well, but a bit wide on a FF - might suit a 1.3 better. And there's a new version just been released.

Thank you for that Duncan.I have a wedding to shoot in December and I'm already paranoid about the light. For all I know it could be better than half of this summer!

But than you for the very timely demo of the 5D at high ISO.

I often shoot in 800 in my 30D and even 1600 when i need to, rather get a noisy pic than no pic.

Yeah, I think it's gonna be a toss up between the two for next year. It really depends if I decide to go with a 5DmkII or not...

the 85mm f/1.2 was next on my list, but thought that since the 70-200 was already in the bag, it was more so of an icing on the cake buy so to speak

Hey then you'll be able to take wedding videos aswell ;-)

Lol, we'll see ...
