I recently bought a Canon 24-70 f2.8L lens second hand, it was advertised as being 'mint condition with slight scuffy to the hood'
It arrived & sure enough, cosmetically excellent, with some marks on the hood. The only slight niggle I've got is on the zoom, when moving it from 24mm, there is almost a step it has to overcome before it zooms smoothly, if that makes any sense? After that it's fine. Has anyone else found this with one of these lenses, or have I bought a rather well worn one that still looks pretty? Or anyone in the East Midlands got one so I can compare mine against something?
Many thanks
Dave

Zoom ring is smooth all the way on mine, not noticed any sticking or jumping when using it.

Sorry, fluid through the range on mine too.

Given that the lens reverse zooms, it makes me think there may be something the extended barrel of the lens is getting caught on when trying to zoom in?

Maybe take it to be serviced. Whats the pics like?

Sounds like the zoom ring may be burred or something similar...

On all L series glass, the zoom motion should be smooth, so not sure how your lens has managed to get like that

Probably the best thing to do is to ring Lehman Brothers in Stoke and explain the problem and I guess they'll have a pretty good idea what's wrong, straight away.

Smooth throughout the range here too. Have it checked out.

bought from a shop or privatley

Bought on ebay (yes I know) advertised as being in 'mint condition' 'faultless' etc. Have emailed the seller who of course claims he never noticed it. It was extremely well packed, so no way anything happened to it in transit.

Leave a bit of negative feedback perhaps?

I'd get an independent written assessment from someone like Lehmans, basically an authorised Canon service centre then take the matter up with Ebay/Paypal. Really does sound like excessive wearing of the zoom ring or a burr or something...

Good luck with getting it sorted :)

Mines 100% smooth too. I hope everything gets sorted out. :(

I've emailed the seller & said I'll have it checked out by a repair centre, dpending on cost I'll either have it done & swallow the cost, or send it back & ask for a refund. Paid by paypal, so hopefull will have some cover that way.

Just check on the paypal site, because from memory if you end up having to go down the paypal dispute avenue you have a certain ammount of days you have to start the dispute in.
