Canon 24-105mm- Strange Black Mark at bottom of the image

Hi, i've been noticing recently that my images have been producing a dark black mark at the very bottom edge of the frame. I use the 24-105mm L lens on my 5d Mark iii and all my images come out fine when using other lenses. For some reason it must be something to do with the 24-105mm which I bought brand new off Amazon. It occurs when the lens hood is both attached and not attached so I really don't know what to do in terms of trying to fix it.
Help would be much appreciated!
You'd think paying £800 would guarantee a fault free lens! :bang:
 
Can you post one of the pictures?

Is it on all the ones taken with this lens?

How long have you had it and was it ok to start with?

I've had the 24-105 for about 5 months and the problem has been there pretty much since the start. At first I just cropped into my images to get rid of the mark but it's just become too much of a hassle now and I know that it shouldn't be doing such a thing.

As you can see, it's a strange and very feint shape at the very bottom of the image. As it doesn't appear on other lenses then the problem must not be to do with the camera itself.
It's really frustrating now
 
You haven't got a UV filter attached have you?
 
As with Jim, you're not using any filters are you ?

Does it happen at all focal lengths or just specifics...

If you are not using any filters and it's been happening since you purchased approx 5 months ago (presumably new) then it's under warranty and send it back to Canon...
 
I went shooting tody with my 17-40mm and the mark reappeared so it's NOT to do with my 24-105mm lens so i'm guessing it's a camera problem? And no filter is being used

In that case, is your camera under warranty - if so, get it sent back and sorted out...
 
Anything visible on the edge of the sensor?
It will be at the top.
It kind of looks like a bit of fluff!
 
Give it a good blow out with a rocket blower as like 4wd said it could just be a bit of fluff on the sensor.

Failing that get it sent back and sorted .
 
Thanks for the help guys, i emailed canon about the problem and they asked me to send it in for repair! Thanks anyway for trying!

Last time I used a blower to 'clean' my sensor, I ended up with this!

Thankfully, that was a long time a go on my 30D, but the moral being, make sure your blower is not dirtier than your sensor;)

That's very true, as I found out the other day, fortunately not on my sensor. They have a valve that's supposed to stop them sucking up the dust they've just blown away, but it doesn't work 100% :eek:

If you've been using it to rocket blast something really dusty, as I did, then wash it out thoroughly.
