I have been trying to buy this lens from Argos over the last few days as they have reduced it to £799, however after emailing them on Friday I received a reply today ....

Thank you for your e-mail regarding the stock availability of catalogue number 556/1654 - Canon EF 24-105 4L IS U Digital SLR Lens.

I am very sorry you have been unable to purchase the item you wanted. I have looked into this for you and I am sorry to advise that the item has been discontinued and we will no longer be receiving further stock.

The item is on the website so that we can clear the stock remaining in some stores across the UK. I apologise, we cannot transfer items between stores. I hope that you can find a suitable alternative from our wide product range....

Does this mean Canon have or will stop making this lens?
Has anyone bought from any of these websites as they also have good prices? Ideally I would have liked to have bought from a reputable name but I don't think that will happen now.

Onestop-digital , Hdew cameras, Camerapro. Etc

buying argos bargins is like looking for the needle in a haystack, no it does not mean its being discontinued just argos are no longer in that market.

Buy from kerso, I had a 70-200 from him last month. Excellent price and great service

Or there telling the truth and a new version is coming out :p

Not at the moment probably more down to the tsunami they suffered. Stocks are low on a lot of things.
Regards

Yeah they seem to run out quick of the ones they have in offer. They were selling it at over 1100 before but when they have it offer obviously people go for it as the interest free period with the argos card is good. I got a 300mm f4 is from them. But I don't think they buy that many as their stock of canon stuff changes quite frequently.

Anyone bought from Onestop-digital recently?

Not sure what the company is like though.
Yes I have noticed this ad before , its a great price but I'm sceptical about buying from small unknown places offering great deals; look what happened to Camerabox recently!

Thanks for that, i just proves if it looks too good its probably a scam :suspect:

What's the service like from Kerso. They are non UK items so is this an issue with warranty?

Service is excellent. Never heard of a problem with warranty. I wouldn't hesitate to buy from Ian.

+1 for Kerso.

I have bought several items from him.
Fast, efficient, warranties all valid in this country.

Sounds good.

Just requested a Canon price list.

This might be a silly question but are Canon imported lenses (grey box etc) identical to UK products?

So has anyone purchased a lens / this one from Kerso? Are they grey/White boxed or like from buying from a UK store?

I bought a 24-105 from Kerso last year, came with hood & cover in a white box with foam inserts, manual and International warranty card and if I remember correctly paid £709 with a vat reciept supplied.

Another  for Kerso, got my 60D from him!

Was this in a White box?

Some of kersos will be White box others will be full retail packaging. If you send him a message I'm sure he'll tell you what he's got available:-)

Amazon.co.uk is selling this lens for £795.

I thought I'd check this out and it would appear it's a 3rd party selling at that price. A retailer called 'Prime Sales'. Amazon are selling for £877.

Over the last couple of weeks Argos have been top of the league on camerapricebuster for a few lenses, but whenever I went to their website there was no stock for home delivery (despite them being advertised as online only) and no stock in local stores. I found a website that checks stores nationally and again, out of stock. I emailed Argos regarding the Canon EF 28mm f1.8 USM as it seemed to be a bargain and got the same email as the OP in reply. This lens was unavailable anywhere and on their website for several days.

I actually considered contacting trading standards as I think advertising products at bargain prices that aren't in stock is not on, but I knew it wouldn't accomplish anything so didn't.

Update..
Well despite Argos replying to my email stating the item (24-105L) i s out of stock & to be discontinued, I thought I'd call customer services & ask to speak to someone that actually knows what is happening..
Apparently this lens is NOT being discontinued & Argos are waining for a delivery of these lenses!
But despite being knowingly out of stock completely in the UK , they are advertising this lens as on offer until the 9th of August
Grrr
