Canon 24-105 error 01

Hi, just received my new lens from member "stuv uk" but it seems to be dead.I have emailed him but am waiting for a reply.
I have cleaned the contacts but it makes no difference, any advice, is this unusual for a new lens?

Panic over, he has been in touch and will send off a replacement straight away.
What a genuine guy!.
