Canon 1DX - Official Owners Thread

firmware is ver 1.2.1 and the exact wording would be
caution 02
a sudden drop in battery performance was detected if this happens again after battery replacement contact a service center

i'm pretty sure it happens weather i use the original e 4n battery or a calumet e4 battery i have
the battery discharge rate doesn't seem excessive though

iv'e read bits about the 02 error log but could never find what the cause of it was

Well I'd speak to Elstree about that, quite a few of us had that initially and as far as I know everyone else is ok now, and it shouldn't still be doing it. That's the latest firmware, so perhaps you have a duff battery.
Canon did exchanges initially, but I don't know if they still do, however it shouldn't be giving you error messages like that.
I wouldn't delete the error log, let Canon do that and if necessary get it back to them.

I've tethered using the Ethernet Port into the Utility. Instant images but takes forever to initiate. On my Mac anyway. I turned off the auto shut off.

To add to this, has anyone tethered into Capture One 7.** using the Ethernet cable?

Can't be done and according to PhaseOne it won't be implemented for a long time last time I asked.

Can capture one 7 monitor a folder and automatically import like lightroom can?

talking of battery issues mine come up with the 02 error log warning ( quite often ) is it worth sending in for repair or just live with it as it doesn't seem to affect the camera performance in any way

To be honest I think that canon opened a nasty can of worms when they decided to implement user searchable error logs.
I have had a few errors reported by my camera. Still, everything seems to work just fine.
If the battery works and performs as expected, (like mine does) then it could easily be a software glitch. Don't fret too much over minor stuff like that. If it works... great, ignore and carry on. If you think there is a real issue, send it to canon.

thats pretty much what i have been doing
if it wasn't for the fact they have included an error log within the menu i would be blissfully unaware of it because the camera and it's battery perform as they should

for the people who have had the 02 problem and have had it sorted under warranty did you send the camera in or just have the battery swapped ?

You can shoot tethered via USB and also monitor a hot folder.
I usually shoot tethered with my 1DX using the USB, fast enough for my purposes.

C1 was originally developed for the Phase One backs and over time they developed it the DSLR.
Main problem is they are a small development team when compared to Adobe so development can be a bit slower then Lightroom, but any excuse not give give any money to Adobe is a big plus.
It's not without it's quirks, I've used it for the past 10 years and did try Lightroom for a day, just didn't like the workflow.

Think you can download a 60 day trial.

When I tried with network tethering with Lightroom I had it monitor a folder then used ftp to transfer from the camera to the watched folder whilst I shot

How are you getting on?

We've neglected your problem!!

Hi George,

Sorry for the delay in replying - lack of internet sucks!!

Camera and cards have behaved themselves so far so I'm not thinking that perhaps the problem arose when I went through airport security. I normally take the images off the cards onto an external hard drive. The hard drive then goes into hold luggage while camera and cards go through security and x-ray machine. This time round, I didn't have time to take the images off because I was bringing my camera in from the freezing cold into a hot hotel and forgot to take the cards out before I went inside. I guess the images might have corrupted while going through security....

I've been trying to do this for bloomin' ages without any success.

did you use an ethernet cable? If so, I've got loads more questions for you :D

Yes camera plugged into cat5 port in one room through netgear switch in the loft then into pc, running filezilla server on windows 7 pc

I have been trying without success to connect my 1Dx to my laptop using cat6 Gigabit cable. I have filezilla server on my windows 7 Ultimate laptop. Ive read the instructions on how to do it, but it still doesnt connect :bang:

i must be doing something wrong, but i just don't know what

Philip - if you could help us with settings that would be great.

Gracias

I plugged a 15m cable direct from the port on the 1DX into my Mac and then ran the setup program through the EOS Utility and the wizard on the 1DX. It took a while for it to register but does work. Granted not as fast as USB but the TX rate was mush faster.

Right back home now, so i'll try and help best i can although i've just had to spend 5 mins trying to remember how to get mine going again, i only had a quick play last time and think i deleted the old folders etc lol

Any 1dx owners on here going to Coningsby tomorrow for the BBMF displays? looks like tomorrow will be the best day weather wise

Sorry Mark, just seen your post.

I sent the whole lot back, that's what Elstree asked for when i told them of the problem.

George.

But are you going via switch or hub. If not needs to be a crossover cable if direct camera to pc connection.

No it doesn't need a crossover as I have connected fine with EOS Utility with a normal cable.

Anyone experienced the focus point not showing in DPP when using the 1.4 TC MK3 ?

In a folder of images, some show the red square and some don't. Also in the info window the Micro adjustment details are missing, again this is in DPP... Seems a bit strange.

My 1.4x is a MkII but it does still show FP on the shots as does the 2xMkIII

The MA field being absent is usually down to the MA being disabled in the 1Dx menu or that there's no MA value assigned to that combination.

Bob

I was testing it out yesterday Bob, the 1Dx with the 1.4 mk3 and 400mm .. I adjusted the MA to +2, 0 and -2 ...taking 4 or 5 shots at each setting then viewing on the PC ...on each of the + and - settings, some of the shots did not reflect the MA in the info window of DPP, but some of them did ....

The same sort of thing happened with some of the shots not showing the red focus square when selecting show focus point.

I'm not sure if it is a bug or a fault...I'll do some more tests next week when I've got a few hours to spare.

Ah now this rings a bell, Tug, i remember I had problems with MFA not showing up, in fact I think I mentioned it earlier in this thread.
Will have a look tomorrow and report.
George.

George.

Well I've just looked at a bunch of shots taken with 70-200 mk2, 400 DO and 1.4 and 2x extenders, Tug, and with DPP I'm getting MF and red focus marks showing.
I'm on DPP v 3.13.0, the latest one which I downloaded from Canon US for the 6D.
I know I had this problem earlier on with the 1 Dx and MF not showing in what seems to have been a random fashion earlier in the year when I was playing with MFA with a number of lenses, and to be honest I can't remember how I solved it, (senior moments these days) but check the software is UTD.

Will try looking back to see if it jogs my memory!!

George.

Cheers George, I've been too busy to look into the issue again. I might look at it again tomorrow. What concerned me more was the fact that the info was there in one frame and the very next frame it was missing, Making me wonder if the adjustment was being applied to all frames taken.

I didn't try it on the 70-200mk2 ...I'll probably give it a try tomorrow.

Yes that was happening to me as well....have you checked the software?

Really??
Network port direct to network port with normal cable?
Well if thats the way they have pinouts set how does it also work via my switch with a normal patch cable also?
Can't do both unless canon have reinvented network protocols.

No but I haven't tried again.

Hopefully I will be able to have another go in the next day or so.

Just upgraded the soft George and the images are still providing the same details.

Im going to shoot some more tests either today or tomorrow...Ill let you know how I get on.

Auto-MDIX????

Which according to many may or may not be in the 1dx and is certainly not in all pc's.
Even those that believe they have it have reported it failing due to the "similiar device" scenario, which requires..... a crossover cable to be certain it is not cabling issue.

Well it should be pretty simple to test whether or not the 1dx has auto-mdix take a working setup disable auto-mdix on the pc end, if the setup still works the 1dx has auto mdix if not it doesn't :-)
I shall have a try when I get home later and let you know my findings :-)

And the result was......?
More to the point though has the other guy figured out if his laptop has it and if not a crossover should work regardless, if he wants to pm me his address I can show him how if still struggling and not too tar away (phone app doesn't show location).
