Canon 1DX - Official Owners Thread

hi Tareq, again welcome to the forum!!

Firstly, I wouldn't worry about your 1 Dx, I think it is generally acknowledged to be Canon's best body to date.

If you aren't having battery problems, you are in the majority although it does seem that battery life is perhaps not as long as some of the earlier 1 series, at the moment it seems that the increased processor usage may be responsible.

I'm not sure why you are using your old 1 D3 charger with the LP-4N battery that's in the 1 Dx, that charger will not charge it up fully...I'd suggest you try the proper one, have a look at the number of shots you are getting on a full charge..and then report back to us here and we'll compare with our experience.

Let us know how you get on.
George.

nearly 65 thousand pics on mine..no problems.. most stable body I have had in ages.. works like a dream.. stop worrying ..

Bloo.y Hell Tony, Thats some going..

Thanks for reply!

Well, i don't think i will spend my time to fill my card from a full recharge, i don't shoot with fast cameras mostly, only for the games which happens once per week, and i always recharge the battery before i go to next game even there is 70-80% of charge level, so should i leave the battery until it is almost run out of charge and see how many shots i get from a full battery?

I used the old charger of Mark III because i was thinking if it works with that new battery then why wasting another charger and open it for another battery, i can open and use the new charger if it is must, but i think you all have a point to use the new one rather than old one to avoid any future issue maybe.

Well, I don't expect to shoot a full battery either, however I don't really see the point in not using the correct charger for the camera battery, and also, if you never use it you might find it doesn't work and you are out of warranty!!
Personally if you aren't having an issue then I wouldn't bother letting it run right down, if it needs calibrating (which involves a discharge) the charger will tell you and you can poke the appropriate button.

Good, than i will do what i always do, i will use the right charger which it comes with and just recharge and shoot, i will only worry when i see an issue if happened or appeared, no need to worry now as long the camera is working flawlessly and i have great results.

Well a couple of us have had the same problem (Caution 02), I'm getting mine replaced just in case.

Not sure about battery life, been some mixed comments, perhaps others can have some input.

Just checked my log and I also have a number of Caution 02s showing up.

Did you you speak to CPS George?

I just phoned them and they are saying it is the 1st time they have heard of it and there are currently no internal procedures in place to deal with it.

She says she thinks there is a shortage of the batteries anyway but is going to check to see if she can find one and then ring me back to arrange for me to send in mine and then they will send the replacement out, if they have one that is.

Now i have my 1DX and i use it now since last 2 games for sports, should i send my 1D MarkIII for service? I mean it is working fine but i feel the focus is not perfect as it should be, my body is not one of those affected batch, but i can't say it is perfect now as well.

Forgot to say that my 1DX doesn't have those 4&5 numbers in the sixth digit and no white dot too.

In all honesty, Vaughan, I used my Canon contact whom I've known for many years, he organised it all for me.
However one of us on the forum has already had his changed I'm sure, will check and edit post accordingly.
George.

PS I do think they are in short supply.

PPS it was Gadget-Guy, Glen, who has had his changed but he said he wasn't doing much shooting until Spring, he'll report then as to how he's getting on.

Will post when I get mine.

Is it just the 1Dx that has the log or does other 1D cameras have it as well.

The 5D3 may also have it but it's certainly the first 1Dsrs body with the log.

No Log on 5D3.. it was first thing I checked after seeing it on my 1DX

How are you finding battery life Tony...Especially shooting multiple games in the damn cold ? How many batteries do you have with you when doing a full shift?

I dont take too much notice.. ever since i got the mkIV I ahve not worried about batteries.. I only have the one for each camera and i can go out all day and not worry about them running out.. so i dont actually check how many actuations per charge I am afraid.. just plod along using wiht confidence :)

I have 4 games on the one day so I just want to be prepared...

I just edited 24 photos out of about 500 shots of yesterday game i went to shoot, it is very difficult to choose, because i can have even 40-50 decent shots great enough, 1DX making me shooting soccer more fun and easier, i get more keeper with it, and my 300 2.8IS became sharper now more than when i was using it with 1DIIn and 1D3, it is like this camera suddenly fixed an issue with my lenses primes or zooms.

The only downside or cons i see with my 1DX shooting soccer is i need longer glasses, i crop a lot, and the results even looks better than cropped of 1D3 but i feel i lose a lot of quality and clarity i need to reserve.

Why not try a 1.4 TC Tareq?

Why not try a 1.4 TC Tareq?

Few reasons:

1. My TCs are with my friend and he is always busy and live a bit far where i don't go there much, yesterday i called him a lot and he didn't reply, i may get it back soon.

2. The AF focus speed, i am worry that it may slowing the AF much and then i don't get much keepers and sharp shots.

3. I have the older version mkII, i feel mkIII is better quality and maybe a bit faster focusing than mkII

I will give it a try next time when i get them back.

The 5D3 compliments the 1DX extremely well....Another 1DX would be nicer though ;)

Yeah 2x 1dx's would be nice lol but I will use 5dmk3 mostly for portraits and landscapes for the extra resolution and travel :-)

And that is why i keep my 1Ds3 for portraits and landscapes, 1DX became my main sports/wildlife/actions body but a backup body for something else

Hi Tareq,

I'm always using my MkII x1.4 TC on my MkI 300mm f2.8 - I can't tell the difference in the AF speed with or without it when I'm using either the 1D X or the 1D iv - you can with the x2.0 TC but I wouldn't worry to much about that either, even that's pretty quick on the 1D X. I would've said it was certainly fast enough for football.

Will try that when i get the Tconverters back from my friend, next game will be soon this coming weekend, i may test it for half time or even less likf 20minutes.

1,2 4 and 5 are good captures but 3 would have been thrown away. You have some great light there and the timing is good. I'm jealous ! only joking, thank you for sharing

Thank you!

I need to shoot in the Premier League to have experience, hope one day this dream can be true.

Hi All,

I decided I needed to clean the sensor on my 1D X today. I used similar swobs that I've used with the 1D iv (only the bigger FF swobs) and never had a problem. However, doing the a full frame sensor seems to be a whole different ball game because I've managed to make matters worse. I just wondered who uses/favours a particular make of swob and cleaning liquid?

Neil
