Canon 1DX - Official Owners Thread

Guys, make sure to switch the camera off before you put it in a bag... Just found 1500 black shots in my card ;(

That wouldn't have happened with the old Firmware Ivan :D

Isn't that more than new from your dealer?
It is now, Robin, but I suspect the guy paid the priority price of EUR 6299

Really, Bob, the only country where I've had my car broken in to..Gallerie LaFyette in Paris.

They probably just wanted to valet it, George. Parisians are known to be scrupulously clean.

Yes, of course, that's why they broke the window to get in, couldn't wait to get the key.

The dark underground car park is just the place to clean a car...

I must remember that in future.

I hate high ISO tests done in controlled situations where the high ISO wasnt required

I took this pic on a job last week. the day after I got the 1x

You can see from the exif that the ISO hasnt been upped just for effect... this is iso 25600 at f2.8 and 400 sec shutter... so it was dark and the ISO was needed...

First is the pic then a 100% crop

Was that jpg? or RAW conversion?

:exit:Well at least it was in focus.....Ford focus.....oh dear, that's really bad, sorry...

I wish I could post last night floodlight (joke more like candle) shots at 12800 and through to 25600 ..seriously the 12800 better than 6400 on the mkIV

Impressive.

Note to self:

Must stop visiting this thread...wallet is getting rather nervous!

:help:

That Jpg sure looks good Tony. But then again....I told you when I went to the hands on event back in April that this body was special! That first impression was confirmed when I had a loaner for 10 Days, again when I took delivery of my order and in fact, every time I use this camera!

I will now warn you....That 1DIV you planing to keep is gonna feel rather lonely and neglected inside your bag... You better start saving for the inevitable second body...

I should never have put the 1dx on the 400mm as it proved me wrong about losing out... i cant even hint it and the wife goes off on one.... be a year at least ......haha before she calms down :)

Nearly hit the order button yesterday. Then I had a panic attack when I actually thought about the £8000 I was about to blow. It's a massive amount of cash considering all the threads on here about sports photographers making naff all money these days. :gag:

All my old leads are gone now so I'd be starting from scratch with the business.

I'll still probably order one it's just a shock when you really sit down and think about it all. :bonk::)

Andy, just get on with it! The longer you take, the less chance you have of doing any business!
You've now decided that you're going with Canon mate. Get one bought, spend the money and enjoy. It's now September. Do it!!:thumbs: :D:D

Enjoy your new kit. ;)

I was just looking on POTN and there is an advert from Park Cameras for the 1Dx.

They show the price as £5299 and underneath crossed out RRP £5299.99.

So a massive 99p discount then :bonk:

For less than £4500 I'd rather buy one from CanonBob's French dealer with 4 years warranty brand new.

my local paper has a pic on back page thats 9 inch high and 5 inch wide.. its loverly and clear and detailed... taken under floodlights at ISO 25600 hahaha thats the highest ISO I have ever had published:)

These are brand new and should come with a English manual as do the stuff that kerso supplies and because they are suppied in the uk will have full canon european warrenty surely

This is a 100% crop wiht NO Processing.. straight out the camera.. on a 1dx file to get two people on a 100% crop then you can imagine the originally dont take up much of the picture..its at night under man made lighting is you will? not flash of course

Taken using 1dx + 400mm at f2.8 and 1600 shutter.... The ISO? A stupid whopping great 51200

Not sure. CanonBob will be along in a while to verify. Could well be manufacturer though as some countries have different laws than ours. In Italy I believe (but may be wrong) all electronic goods have, by law, a 2 year guarantee.

Apple recently fined a few million euro I think for misspelling AppleCare because it didn't make it clear that it was only an extra year guarantee. Still 3 years but Italian law says you get 2 years free. In UK you are buying an extra 2 years but in Italy only 1 extra year.

On iPhone at the moment so can't fully check out the details but it was something along those lines.

Hi Tony, I hope you don't mind. I cleaned that for you to illustrate just how well the 1Dx files react to noise reduction.

Below an Image I took last July during my Flamenco School performance (rehearsals) at the Peacock Theatre... dark as you like ISO 51K (cleaned)

I cant wait for basketball next week.. proper indoor shoot :)

shop warranty surely? not to be sniffed at but not much use if your in a rush..
2 years Canon and two years shop warranty. The shop warranty is no different to Canon warranty in that I still send it to Canon or a Canon approved repair facility and then they foward the invoice to the shop. The CPS turnaround times and body loan should still be valid just as it would be if I sent an out of warranty body (ie, one of my MkIV''s) to them for repair.

Decided to take the DX plus a fisheye into the games last night.

Waited till the end (security were basically pushing me out the door)...

Iso 5000 still reasonably clean.

Ivan, which clean up programme are you using?

Thanks, George.

Noise Ninja.
But, I never use auto profile and manually adjust the parameters to suit each individual image.
EDIT: I have just checked the site to include a link but, Noise Ninja is now PhotoNinja a new RAW converter/ noise reduction program. I have no experience with this product. so I can't comment.
