how many remebered to do the following.. either on the same day or at all?

I registered it on the canon website warranty list... I added it to the CPS equipment list and more importantly have contacted my insurance (clik) to have it added to the list

My insurance with Cliik covered for a certain value rather than having to list each item.

Just been pottering about the house wiht various lens.. getting used to the camera without checking the manual... trying to zoom in on a pic was fun... keep going to wrong button for ISO

7pm round at the local dim boxing club.. will post high iso pics later tonight if anyone interested.. although i suspect theres anough high iso pics about..

the above seems to ahve done the trick.. but i really want to switch the AF-ON button to the * button for ease of use.. cant seem to figure that one out yet

Remember if you use your 1DIV charger it can only charge the 1Dx battery to 90% (as best I recall).

I had no idea.. so what if I use the new 1dx charger for 1dx and mkIV battery.. will it be too much for the mkIV?

No the 1Dx charger is 100% fine for the 1DIV battery.

Tony - go Custom Control (Orange menu 3rd from the right), scroll down to *, press Set and move across one to Metering and AF Start

SILLY ME .... right so now both do same thing which is good for me :)

Not silly, just takes a while to find/remember where 'stuff' is in the menu.

Good idea on having both the same, so if finger misses one it may get the other.

Purple AF Auto point select OFF ... aftre reading the manual on this its off and staying off..

Custom control, scroll to

item 4 and select to auto, this automatically books the camera into Canon Elstree for bug fixes on a weekly basis.

item 5 selects Canon Elstree customer services to auto ignore any phone calls you might make.

Item 6 Selects an auto responder to be sent from Canon denying all knowledge of you or your purchase.

Seriously, hope it's all you're expecting mate, seems it will be.

LOL good one Gary.

If you are going to be shooting in dark conditions.... Switch iTR OFF. (third page purple menu)
Also below joystick is th quick access menu ( very handy indeed).

Nooo stop everyone. All these useful features being discussed is too much. :bonk::)

Buy one for goodness sake Andy ;)

My settings
Shutter Butt = Metering start
AF ON = 14fps
AE Lock = Metering and AF start
Multi- function butt (small button to left of top wheel) = switch to custom shooting mode
Multi- function butt 2 (top / right front button) = AE Lock
DOF ( lower / left front button)= DOF
Multi -controller (joystick) = AF point selection
Jpeg quality = 100
Image review = off
record functions = Auto switch
File name = default / continuous
Copyright info = Entered my info
Auto power off = 1 min (no point having it longer as it switches on instantly)
Orientation AF point = separate
Auto AF point selection = off
Magnification = 100%
Auto light Optimizer = off
Highlight priority = off
High ISO noise reduction = standard
Long exposure noise reduction = Auto
Release shutter without card = Off
Ai servo 1st image priority = slider all the way to focus
and 2nd image = slider all the way to focus
One shot AF release priority = slider all the way to focus
EOS iTR AF = Off (unless I am shooting people in good light this one is pointless)
Custom shooting modes (c1 to c3 ) = C1 enabled and registered (this changes depending on what I am shooting and it comes very handy indeed).

Ivan do you always keep EOS iTR AF = Off or only in bad light (as I believe it slows focus speed down in bad light).

Unless I am shooting moving people in good light (rare event for me) I keep if off.

Also, For BIF against blue/Grey sky/ water = on and it works great
For BIF against busy backgrounds = off having it on gets the AF really confused!

Missed this one.
Yep! that was my exact feeling when I first played with it a the canon pre-view event. Coming form the 1D(and s) III and then the 1DIV... This 1Dx is in a completely different league! F/8? To be hones I rarely used it still, I do miss it (especially with my Moon and planetary shots). But boy the AF accuracy more than makes up for it!

Tonight is the acid test for you Tony. I can assure you ... you will leave the event with a huge grin on your face!
