I've had a little search, both here and on google, but I want to ask the great and the good of this here forum.

I've got the opportunity to replace my 5d2 with a 1dx. I'd like to know, from those with experience of both ideally, is the 1dx a worthy replacement?
I know its 18mp as opposed to the 5d2's 20, and that it has a much greater iso range but, realistically, is the image quality better than the 5d2?
Is the 1dx's million and nine focus points practically any better than the 5d2's 9?
I've read something about the pixel pitch and density but if I'm honest, I don't understand it, so would appreciate the advice of you wonderful people.

Tremendous thanks in advance

The image quality and speed of focussing of the 1DX is fantastic. I've printed 36 x 24 prints using mine without any issues at all. It's very good in low light. The 12fps is also a bonus at times (I mostly do motorsport), as is the weather sealing.

I currently use both a 1DX 2 and my original 1DX (owned from new) and looking at the images taken in good light (iso below 1600), it's impossible to tell them apart.

The 1DX is heavier though, but on the plus side the battery will last all day shooting 2500+ shots without issue.

So a no brainer to go from 5d2 to 1dx mk1 by the sound of it.

If you’re in need of an upgrade it’s also worth thinking about the newer mirrorless offering depending on budget. A friend with 5DM2 contacted me this week about upgrading and he’s going for R6. Depends what you need and budget as always.

Its a birthday present from my sister, bless her. I'm thinking of sticking with the EOS system as thats what I've got lenses for already.

Ok it will be a great present :)

I’ve stuck with eos lenses adapted to the newer mirrorless bodies. They work like native, canon did a good job on that.

i would get the 1dx i have 2 of them plus i decided to purchase the r5 and have sent it back to me its not built the same as the 1dx cameras we will know in the next 10 years how well made the mirroless cameras are and i think there will be problems
also battery life on 1dx is crazy long for low light the pixel pitch on the 1dx is superior to any camera Ive owned in low light and the focus is spot on there is a reason for all this and its simple when released £6500

The 1dx is a great camera - I had it until my current 1dx2 - but it's much heavier than your 5d2, so keep that in mind as well. It'll outperform the 5d2 in many, many ways, but it's a fair old chunk to carry around. (You do get used to it)

The answers depend a heck of a lot on what your shooting.... If your shooting anyhting moving fast, shooting in bad weather,, shooting in low light... then the 1dx is for you... if shooting landscapes or flowers then maybe not :)

I find for some reason people have just got to rapped up in the mirroless lightweight race
imaging if a camera was produced that never missed focus was perfect eye detect and all the other things photography would be boring working at getting the shot is the key and even though the 1dx is heavy you know it will never fail you and is very very accurate get the 1dx you won’t regret it

flowers then maybe not
I would disagree unless these are very stable setups in the studio. Flowers (macro-ish) can move about quite a bit with the slightest amount of wind. Good AF certainly helps a lot here.

landscapes
OK, if you aim for larger than A1 it is best to look at Sony A7RIV, Pentax 645Z, Fuji GFX, etc.
