Hello

Im considering getting a 580ex II. Can anyone that has one of these and a 1d3 tell me if the wireless flash menu is activated when the flash is attached?

I already run a couple of 550ex and a sigma wirelessly using the 550 controls. But i got a lend of a 580ex ii and on my 40d i was able to get into a wireless flash control menu that made setting up wireless shots sooo much easier.

Only reason for going to a 580ex ii is to get this function really so dont want to buy one if it wont do it.

Cheers Neil

Yes, I think it is a function of the gun rather than the camera.

Cheers for the replies.

The Canon site just says you can control the flash functions, doesnt mention the wireless menu.

I know it definately exists with the 40d/50d/5d2 with the 580EX II only and the 7d has it built in. Used it with my 40d and a borrowed 580ex ii. Makes the canon wireless experience much easier, being able to set ratios or manual power levels from the camera rather than mess about with the flashgun :D

Will have to see if i can pick one up now :( lol

Yep - from the camera menu you can set up the local and remote flashes, set up the flash groups, and control either the flash exposure compensation or, if the flashes are in manual mode, directly control the remote flash output (much easier than that bloody ratio stuff!!).
