I have just acquired a 1D Mark 2N and I'm trying to "unlearn" the 40D and get my head round this.
I understand that the 40D had 9 AF points and if selected then all 9 points would illuminate on the focussing screen.

The 1D has 45 but I can't seem to get all 45 to illuminate, just either 1 point (which I can vary) or some surrounding points.

So for instance, if I'm trying to shoot a moving aircraft will just 1 point light up?

My understanding of the 1D AF is obviously skewed.

Check the setting of CFn-13....should be 0 to have all points available and also check that no PFn's are messing you up (PFn-17 comes into play here I believe).

Selecting the focus point button and then rotating the main dial should scroll through them for selection.

Added....you're not in AIservo are you?

when auto point selection is selected all the outer points light up - all points are active.
