I cant find anything on these forums, and very little on the net.

My Cannon 17-85mm IS lens is being a pain. Its jamming in the extended position till I turn the whole thing upside down to bring it back in.

Im led to believe this is because a group has fallen out of place.

Is this something I can correct myself, and if not how much is it likely to skin me to get it fixed?

Cheers!

Sounds like one of the runners has become loose and is wedging the lens open, until you turn it upside down, which then frees the 'blockage'.

I think you could possibly have a look inside and you might be able to fix it (at completely your own risk though) - you need to remove the black plastic (with writing on) cover next to the front element to access the screws to get inside.

Possibly best option is to get it repaired though - I've used Norfolk Camera Centre before and they were very very helpfull and very reasonably priced (inc RMSD back) - give them a bell.
