canon 17-55 problems

has anybody on here had problems with the lens locking up at 55 its happend to me today its locked solid.
would this be an expensive repair.

I had a problem with mine where it wouldnt get to 55, it stopped at 50. Probably the same issue just yours is stuck past 50. I got quoted about £160 to repair it.

I didnt get it done in the end, sold it on as broken when I changed back to Nikon. My issue wasnt as bad obviously as you still had 17-50mm range, but yours it a bit more drastic.
I think the quote was from Lehmanns, but try Canon in Elstree as they seem to be cheaper than the others.
