Hi all,

I'll be adding a 17-40L to my lens collection shortly, to go with a Nifty Fifty and 85mm 1.8. All being used on a 7D and 60D.

I'd like a longer reach lens for close ups at weddings, but nothing too heavy as the idea is to shoot from a distance when people aren't looking, so setting off a tripod wouldn't be ideal.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Laura

Being fairly discrete, the Canon 70-200f4 NON IS would make an inexpensive addition to your kit and will give fantastic images. f4 is not the fastest but then it does not look like you are pointing a bazooka at someone either, as is the case with the much larger f2.8 equivalents. The IS version is also a fantastic lens but twice the price.

Two options for you.

Good luck with your choices.

Gary

PS: I have 5DIII, 60D and 7D bodies and have shot a few weddings. Personally I would trade in either the 60D or 7D and get a 5DII or 5DIII to go with the one you keep. Having FF and crop bodies makes your lens line-up more versatile. Just a thought.

Thank you :-) It's on the agenda for next year, just wanted to add a few bits this year then add a 5D next year once I've earned enough money. I'm buying a portable background and a few other bits this year, hence not spending loads on a new body.

If on a budget, get a used 70-200 f4 off this forum for £330-350. The best buy in photography IMVHO.
