I'm new to the camera scene , I'm pretty clued in on the software side of things , but I'm a bit confused to what bits I require , recently bought the camera stated above , with 18-55mm standard lens , need help and guidance to what lenses I will require , what's makes are good , I'm not really up to speed with all the abrivations just yet so I'm a fresh starter , I heard u can get a 50mm reverse able lens for the Nikon I seen the photos it takes and like that concept and also using old lenses , can I use adapters so I can use an old lens or even a Nikon 50mm reversible ? Please help much app
 
You require whatever lens you require (not supposed to be a smartarse answer - honest)

It all depends what you want to take photos of. The 18 - 55 covers a fair bit of ground so use that for a while and see what it doesn't do that you need it to.

- Do you need better low light ability and therefore a lens with a larger aperture
- Do you want to take pictures of things that are far away so need a large zoom
and so on.

In my case, I am happy with one fixed focal length lens while others would hate that so each person needs and likes are very different.

I'm happy to give a detailed answer, but please can you give me some idea of the sort of subjects you anticipate photographing and perhaps some idea of budget?

Those are very good value for money, your kit lens will cover landscape. It all depends what you will be using your camera for. Using old lenses is relative, are they top quality lenses? if not, is not worthy, the money spend on adapters will make it pointless and swapping stuff will be too much of a hassle.
 
When I bought my 1000d with the 18-55 kit lens, I was tempted to buy other lenses straight away, but was advised from a family member who is a keen photographer not to do so.

Far better to use your exhisting equipment for a while, then decide what you are "lacking", ie zoom, etc, then buy to suit your needs.

For the record, I went on to buy a 55-250is & 50mm 1.8 lenses.
 
I wouldnt even consider reversing lenses and the like yet at your stage. By doing so removes all automatic functions of the camera, so you really need to know what you are doing in regards to exposure and focus.
As others have said, use what you have and when you find something is missing then consider buying something to fill the gap.
 
Thank you for the responses , I think I will see over the month what my camera can't do and start from there I like to take portrait and small detailed shots , I think once I get to understand all the different functions I can have a clearer line of route , but your links and smart answers have been much appreciated
