Yes
does anyone have any input as to which one of these lenses is better
for all the price difference i would pay for the canon assuming it is worth the extra.

Having used both I'd go for the Canon as its got internal focusing and a longer working distance.

I have the canon and haven't used the sigma to compare but can confirm that it is sharp as a tack and has a decent working distance. The AF is a little slow but I can't imagine the siggy being any quicker.

I've had both and IQ is pretty much even...they both produce excellent shots. Paul's point about the Canon using internal extension would sway me towards the Canon version if I was picking up either one.

I had the sigma the focus would sometimes stick and would refuse to move with canons macro-light fitted to the front,it is a very sharp lens though.I would probably buy the canon one next time.

I have the Canon, and for macro stuff (that doesn't move) it's good. For taking pics of anything that is moving, i.e. kids portraits, it's just too slow to focus.

Isn't the Tamron 90mm very well thought of?

I have the Canon 100mm macro I bought after the Sigma which I did not like due to the extending focussing which made it a real pain to use.

The Canon is worth the extra for this alone. The Sima's optical quality was extremely good but the focussing was very slow and a bit creaky.

The Tokina 100mm is an excellent choice. Very sharp, well build AND with internal focusing, like the Canon, albeit much cheaper (only £280 brand new and delivered by One stop Digital).

You can pick up a mint boxed used Canon 100mm macro for around £330 - £350 in the FS section on here , which should want to sell in the future should be easier to sell on and you you would lose very Little money on the deal if any.

Keep an eye out in the second hand lists of shops too. I got my Canon, with hood and filter in perfect nick, still boxed for £300, with a 6 month warantee from Camarthen Cameras. Nice guy to deal with!
