Yes
As i look though my view finder the focusing points no longer light up when focus is achieved, the beep is still there to confirm focus.

Any idea how much this would be to replace?

Cheers in advance.

Anyone even know that technical named of the part i mean?

hmmmm mine has done this a coupple of times but im unable to replicate the issue, i assume you mean the focusing points arnt lighting up when you get the focus lock bleep?

Indeed, although the right hand side of the middle one lights up slightly.

Put th camera into manual mode and press the focus point select button, they should all go red in the viewfinder...

None light up - apart from the right hand side of the centre one, dimly.

No wait - the only two that light up are centre top and furthest right.

It sounds like the illumination part is broken, check all the focus points work individually to see if the focusing screen is broken if not its a call to Canon

Yeah they all focus fine, just don't illuminate.

:(

Anyone else any ideas?

If not i'll ring around tomorrow bout getting it fixed :)

Luckily chris, Lehmans is in Stoke and they're a Canon Authorised Service Centre. So it wouldn't be too far to drive!

Give 'em a try.

Yeah, rang them yesterday but no answer. If I can't figure it out before my next day off work I'll pop down and see them.

:)

Popping down in an hour :) will report back.

just got back :(

they say it needs a full service - costing about £170.

not going to bother at that price as i can live with out the red lights - and it still focus' perfectly.

yea I phoned canon UK and they quoted £162 for a standard repair.. I sent the 40d back... the bloke is now saying he'll give a full refund when he assesses the camera, but Im getting a funny feeling he aint going to be easy.. Gah i hate it when things go wrong..

yep got a quote for £162 from Lehmans the other week for the fix to be done on the 5D.

I'll live without I think!

To be honest, I didn't really look for them, mainly used the beep to confirm focus. Just have to make sure I know which focus point I'm using. 99% of the time it's just the centre one so it's fine.
