Canon 100-400mm or 400mm L F5.6

Hi guys. I currently have a Canon 100-400 lens but have recently got a 2nd body. I'm now wondering if it would be better to get rid of the 100-400 and change for a 400 L and 70-200 F4 on the 2nd body??? My photography is all aviation related.

Personally, the idea is a goodun. Seeing as you're always at full extension on the 100-400, you might as well go for the sharper 400mm prime. And, you'll get 400mm instead of 380mm. Take off & landing shots will be covered by the 70-200.

I'm with Dean, go for the 400mm and 70-200mm. A good friend of mine does loads of aviation photography and when he can this is his combination.

I use the 100-400 for aviation photography, and find the whole range useful as I shoot light aircraft to large aircraft from vastly varying distances.
Just got the 70-200 f2.8 II so it will be interesting to see whether this alters my opinion.

I have a 100-400 and it is tack sharp. I would go with this as you have the flexibility to use anywhere from 100-400. I recently went to see my wife fly hawks and owls and I needed the whole range. I would undoubtedly have missed many shots if restricted to just 400 or had to mess about changing lenses
