Canon 100-400 vs 70-200 f2.8 with 2x TC

I think on the other hand I am erring towards the 100-400, which technically should have a higher IQ 200-400 by the charts. Whether or not that is actually visable in my shots is a moot point, I am just thinking 300+ quid difference.

However I am going to give a 70-200 f2.8 a try at the DTM next week.

That'll only get you 300mm though. And IME, 300mm is not long enough for garden birds, unless you can get close. I struggle with 400mm.

Certainly not ideal, but better than nothing. I was hoping they would come today, but looks like im going to have to wait until tomorrow. I really wish they had come today, as I went out to some local duck ponds, and was within 2ft of a lovely family of ducks/ducklings, where a longer lens would have allowed me to fill the frame with the little fluff balls.

I see what you mean, desantnik, and the £300 is certainly a consideration!

Well, its 300 quid if you do the dirty from HK... even more if you buy from the UK!

Well I finally went silly and ordered a 70-200 f2.8 is usm in the UK
£974 Inc P&P but I did have to haggle a little :D
there's 200 Euro cash back too on that one
That about £135? I think

Where was that from?

I didn't think you could get the cashback deals unless you were actually in the country the lens came from?

I know when you buy the cheap stuff off of ebay they've already redeemed the coupons - and most tell you this.

congrats, you'll love it :D

That's a fantastic price anyway even if you don't get your Cashback!

Excellent price. 'tis a brill lens

VERY good price and you'll love using it. Very tempted to make a x2TC my next purchase..........

If you read the canon terms and conditions it says you can buy anywhere in Europe to get the cash back ( I Hope :D )

As long as you get an invoice from a UK company it doesnt matter where the lens came from initially as i understand it :) so as long as a UK address on the Invoice it should be fine.

Lets hope so! But the advert from whence I bought, does say that it was orginally came from the US of A so not sure if that will exclude me or not

The same people seem to be doing the Canon 100-400mm F4.5-5.6 IS USM LENS for around £850.00 I think I can't remember the exact price and this is ( wasn't anyway) not advertised on their site but they do have them

Edit :£848 + £14:95 P+P

The ad says "UPC Code has been removed from box for promotional purpose." though, and I thought you needed that to claim cash back?

Michael.

Bloody hell thats cheap, I've just order from Kerso at £1020 + £10 p+p with cash back of £130 so it will end up at £900

I tried to order one from the same source as you but he ignored my emails, well, he answered one then ignored the rest, so I went elsewhere.
The "cash back offer" on mine is a "bit iffy" at the moment, still what the hell, Its not a bad price without it!

Funny thing is he ignored several emails I send from one address, but when I used another email address he replied in less than a minute.

You do, which is why I said earlier than many of the people involved in such deals via ebay have already claimed the cashback themselves.... hence the low price!

I don't give people that chance TBH Mess me about and I will go for a comparable deal.
Thats not the first time its happened either!
I was even asking for a quote for the 70-200 2.8 and the 100-400 combined!
The first email that was replied to, gave me a quote ( for bank transfer, not paypal so (he) saving 3% fees) came back at the same price as he had them on Ebay for! I know a lot of people have had good experiances so  good for them. Me? not terribley impressed more recently, especially as I have spent a few quid in the past with him ( 70-300 is usm and 100mm macro)

Well it looks as though my new baby is being wrapped in swaddling clothes and load onto the stork as we speak

Ha, in the end I never even tried the 70-200 but did try the 300 F4 for an entire day, fell in love with it and bought it :D

Oh well!
