Hi All,

First post, but hopefully not my last! When I use the above lens on my EOS30d the photo quality I'm getting is utter garbage.

Look at the following photo for an example:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/graemelawton/2559083942/ <-- zoomed in at 100% ish.

I have several other lenses I use on the camera and they all seem to shoot fine. The bleed when using this lens seems to be terrible. I know this isn't a great lens, but surely I should be expecting better results than this? This is typical of all the photos taken with this lens.

Anyone got any ideas? Time to start saving for a new decent zoom?

I'd never heard of a 100-200 lens so I looked it up on Google. If the page I read is right it is a pretty old budget lens introduced around the start of EF lenses. If so then for a budget lens that was never intended for a high resolution crop sensor digital camera I don't think the full shot or 100% look that bad.

Welcome to the forums btw. :)

I suppose you're right. I'm comparing it to my other lenses that are all fairly decent. Looks like I'm going to have to start saving!

I would guess that this thing must be 20 years old and has the technology to match. The AFD focusing will certainly be a drain on your battery especially as there's no manual focus to help out. It morphed into the 70-210 and that suffered quite badly from CA at the longer end.

Yes, saving would not be a bad idea.

20 years! Wow didn't peg it as being that old, but thinking about it, it could be! Okay kids, what do people reckon I should be saving for? Realistically what's the performace difference between the Canon, Sigma, Tamaron etc telephoto.

I reckon I might as well save for a decent speed lens. I've seen the Sigma 70-200mm f2.8 for £400 which I thought was a pretty reasonable price. Obviously no IS might be a pretty big draw back on a telephoto, but the speed should make up for it?

Thanks!
