this may sound really weird, or nt even worth trying, but was over the missus house having a cuppa and she had some candles on the coffe table that was lighting up the steam from the tea.

now i had a thought of shooting diagonally up towards the steam using the candle light as the only source of light for the shot.

1) would this even be worthwhile? Was just wondering if others have used candle light as the main/only source of illumination
2) If people have used it, what were the best things to photograph?

hope this makes sense

thanks

1, Many times with great success.Tripod essential.

2, I had 3 matched but various sized lite candles, with a red rose slightly in the back ground, with black backdrop, i have also done the same but with a white rose.
I have managed to sell quite a few copies...

Good chance to play with shutter speeds and apertures. remember to make sure your iso is as low as it can go, other wise there is a risk of high noise/grain.

I've been waiting for an excuse to post this (I must get around to posting my best shots from Berlin!)

It was taken with my compact camera a Sony T300. The room was only lit by candles and I placed one directly behind the drink. I was surprised by the result.

there were some images on here lit by a lighter and they looked great

was in the portraits section, maybe try searching jones or indiannah (sp?) jones

Well worth doing. I've sometimes lit with 1 candle, sometimes with a lot as in this shot
That particular shot, from memory, was 2 seconds, f/11, 100 ISO

Candles placed behind and to the side are the only light sources here too.
