Cancelling Sky...... TV Options **UPDATED**

I got sky basic reduced to £10, which I am happy with to watch Sky atlantic and sky arts plus the sky plus record.

The Sky engineer that turned up on Saturday didn't mess around........ said my box was very old (6 years old but I think they changed the model after I got it) so the only viable option was to swap it for a new one :D

I'm super happy having dumped Sky. And saved a load of money going over to Internet TV. With an Android box from Amazon. I've got more stuff for much less money.

That's effectively what I've got now :) Saving £90 a month :D

How does Internet tv work? Bit of a numpty on this? I love sky, convenience of the box and watching sky plus etc...

I plugged it in the TV and using the remote control logged in to my home wifi. And there are a whole load of free things to watch. For films and TV series you can sign up for Amazon Prime or Netflix. It also has the BBC iPlayer, Flikr and Picasa and a whole load of other goodies. The Amazon one runs on Android and so lots of things are compatible. My daughter plays Minecraft on it.

You can get live TV on it, but the great benefit is there is a huge library of films and shows to browse through. Pick one and press play and it plays. You can pause it. And come back to where you paused it weeks later if you want to. In fact you can pause as many shows as you like. All from your arm chair with the remote control. It makes conventional TV look inconvenient.

I have to vouch for these Android boxes, however... they are not just plug and play there is a little bit of tinkering needed (the one i bought needed it anyway). We used to have Sky but then changed to Virgin. We find that we do not watch that much TV an more, but as we are on a package, i think at the time it was cheaper to take the TV broadband and phone instead of just having broadband and phone. If it was up to me we would only have the broadband.

There is no tinkering with the Amazon Android box. Connect to wifi and it's there. You don't even need an Amazon account.

You can even take it with you when travelling it's so small. And watch your shows from a hotel or where ever you have wifi or network cable and a TV.

Received two emails from Sky today........

First one offering me Sky Go extra for £1pm for 3 months (as opposed to £5pm)....... Great deal.... NOT!!!

Second one offering me Sky Sports & Movies for £20pm instead of £34.50pm for 12 months, that's actually not a bad offer but I'm still going to pass.

Wonder what else they'll come up with by the end of the month when my package changes?

Had a letter today, my package is going up £3 to £90 a month. I'd like to look at reducing this or even moving but everything is easy to do with Sky. Looked at BT TV but can't seem to see how it works compared to the Sky box. Might give Sky a call one night and see if I can get a deal.

IIRC you only get sky sports 1&2 with BT.
