cancelling phone contracts before term is up?!

thats the thing though, people have this impression that a handset should not cost money - why not? It's a piece of equipment that is expensive - why shouldn't you pay money for it the way you do with a computer or tv or any other electrical device.

Paying money upfront for the phone to me is worth it to not be tied into a contract thats more than 12 months

Exactly how I got my first one through work (in Belgium) - there the norm was to buy the handset outright for €lots and the monthly contract was peanuts (less than a quarter of the equivalent here)

My advice would to be go into the O2 shop at the top end of the Royal Arcade / Castle St, and speak to Aaron , the "O2 guru"... really nice helpful guy and knows his stuff without any call centre bull****** and scripts.

Not sure there is much they will be able to do though, the contract you sign is pretty much watertight in their favour.... but I am sure if there is... he will be able to help......


Only offer that advice, as he helped me out with my phone a few weeks back and really laid into the guys in the call centre (different one to you or I can call) and "you will do this now" and was pretty insistent.

Can I just chip in and say I highly recommend Tesco, especially if you are going for the iPhone.

As they do 12 month contracts you get the best of both worlds. You get a short contract, but you still have to pay a bit, but not too much upfront for the handset.

When my OH wanted an iPhone, we sat down, and over the life of the phone it worked out a lot cheaper with Tesco then it was for me being on o2.

Oh, and you get a load of club card points!
