Canada Heights RedBull Pro Nationals

I'll be there Saturday morning and all day Sunday.

The track (as a lot of other members here will vouch for) is pretty photographer friendly.

They hold regular events which are well worth seeing if you're around.

With most events you could (if you wanted to get kicked out) literally touch the riders. I presume we'll be slightly further back, but it's not like a tarmac track with run off areas and fencing. All the fences at Canada Heights are waist height.

I tried a 150-500 but found myself using it inbetween 150-300. I found the 70-200 just a bit short at some parts of the track.

I don't know the corner names but there are some places where the 10-20 was needed to get the bike in as you're so close to the track!

Both of the above were on a cropped sensor camera so would be the same equiv. focal length as if they were on your 40d.

Provided you've got the space bring all 3. If you had to drop one, I'd say leave the 17-85.

Lovely, thanks for that, forgot ive also got a 1.4 converter so will bring that along as well and probably leave the 17-85 at home :)

Watch out for rocks getting kicked up too, I got concussion last week from getting hit on head at motocross over here lol

Always find 70-200 is great for motox, as said above in some places you'll need a wide angle!

Lol I'll bring my hard hat, it will be a couple of firsts for me, never done bikes or non tarmac except for a small ammount of rallycross at lydden

Canada Heights is an awesome place and the Red Bull is a super glitzy, top notch event.

You can you pretty much any of the lenses you mention here. The bikes will be probably no more than 100yards away if you shoot back up the track and will pass anything from 10ft to 6 inches from you - there are no catch fences or run off areas in MX, just a short wooden fence!

Definitely be prepared though that you need good outdoor gear for MX - it will be muddy/dirty and CH is on a steep hill. Don't turn up in designer clothing and white trainers!

Plenty of good tips already posted on here about shooting MX, so go and ENJOY!

Well ordered myself some filters for the 16-35 and 70-200, any idea what sort of time it all kicks off on Saturday, couldn't see a start time or any sort of running order on the website (although it doesn't work to well on a mobile)

Usually it starts at 9am with quali sessions for the various classes then race 1 for every class, lunch and race 2 for every class...

They don't seem to publish a timetable online, it will be in the programme though...

Good job it didn't fall in one of the many puddles there yesterday! Was you dressed all in black with a black hat?

No it fell in some nice soft grass, although I couldn't get it to autofocus afterwards but i think the connection was just loose it was fine after taking the extender off. No wasn't wearing black lol, was in grey camo trousers and Brown hoodie / blue paca mac
