Can you recommend a tripod?

Hello all,

Can anyone please recommend a tripod that is under £200? I would like to have a smooth head because I use my 60D to take videos. I have looked around, my ideal tripod would cost around £300 and I am a student, so I don't have much money to spend.

Please help.

Cheers

Nothing like a smooth head. I use the Manfrotto 190xprob with 322RC2 head. That combo should come in just under your £200 and is very good IMO.

Have a look at redsnapper.:)

I have a Camlink TPPRO28B and it's excellent for the money. It's pretty much the same as Manfrotto/Gitzo offerings it's just cheaper and a tiny bit of quality sacrifice but I'm not kidding it's excellent and I've been happy with the long exposures I've been doing :)

A student with a £300 budget? What is this madness? :p

Another vote for redsnapper here!

Great quality and value for money:thumbs:

Second the Manfrotto tripod above, great bit of kit and steady as a rock, don't know about that head, I bought a ballhead for mine.

You will probably find a good head costs as much as the tripod

I have the Manfrotto 190XProB which is great. The central column going horizontal feature is great also. I got mine with the 496RCT Ball Head. Little tip, try the code TRIPOD15 on Jessops for 15% discount;)

I also have the Manfrotto with the 322RC2 head which i find fine and dandy:)

Well today I purchased the giottos 9351B legs and the 1311 652 series 2 ball head! Very very impressed. I used to use the manfrotto 055pro and 322 grip action head so expectations were high!. I was very surprised at just how good the giottos was.The head is a dream and the legs are very sturdy although the center column can take some working out with regards to positioning etc but once done its easy enough to remember!
If I am honest I would say my old 055 pro was maybe a tad sturdier but not by much! Seeing as the giottos was almost £50 cheaper I can live with that.
Overall the giottos head and legs have fantastic build quality and would suit most people I would have thought.Well worth a look if you are on a budget but want decent bang for buck!

Gitzo, that is my most wanted tripod, but a decent one is just too expensive. The alternative one you suggested looks good too. How is the head performs?

Cheers mate.

You could take a look at Benbo.

I had a Manfrotto for years and mostly wrestled with it and then left it at home as it couldn't be placed as I wanted. I now have a Benbo with the additional centre bracket and not only can I now get the positions I want but it's also more stable than my Manfrotto 055 was.

If you like Gitzo, and who doesn't, then look at Benro (not to be confused with Benbo). They are Chinese Gitzo clones and exceptionally high quality and value - basically the same thing at half the price.

The aluminium models should come in around your budget. Recommended supplier DC's Store here http://stores.ebay.com/DCs-Photography-Store

The C-197 could even interest me as it seems to offer more positioning options than conventional centre column tripods.

Oops, just spotted the price. A lot dearer than my current one.

Apologies, DC's Store seems to have dropped the aluminium options from their listings. Carbon jobbies are much more expensive. There are a few other ebay suppliers though.
