Can you rationalise my triggering needs?

No
I've currently got some Aputure Trigmaster Plus Mk1 triggers which work fine with my Olympus and studio strobes or speedlights. I found out to my cost that these old triggers won't reliably sync above 1/60s on my new Nikon D750.

Additional, I have
  • AD360 with the wavesync transmitter and the little usb receiver.
  • I've got a Godox 560TX transmitter and several YN560III speedlights
I need some triggers which will work reliably with my D750 and studio strobes up to 1/200s.
I'd like some triggers which are capable of HSS with the AD360 and the Nikon, and can remotely control the power of the AD360.

If the same triggers could remotely control the power of the YN560IIIs and fire them then that would be a bonus.

It looks as though the Godox X1T-n combined with either the little XTR-16 USB receiver would do the HSS part. Is there a corresponding receiver which a can attach to the Yonguos or studio strobes?

Or is a pair of YN622 transceivers the way to go?

Or would a YN622 TX with a single YN622 transceiver be better? It's not clear to me whether that supports HSS. Is there any way to make the YN622TX control the power of the YN560III speedlites?

Or something else?

Thanks in advance

There's no single solution, because you've already got 2 camera systems and 3 different lighting needs.

My gut reaction is YN622 based, but you'll need to rationalise that by admitting it won't do everything.

I suppose the best way forward is to decide whether you're planning to rationalise all your lighting in the future? If you are; now's the time to plan the flight path. If not, you'll need a complicated matrix to find the best bang for your buck (though I guess you've realised that).

X1n and an xtr16 might be the easiest way to both fire the AD360 and control it. But buying an x1n-r for each additional light could be expensive. For the 560's though, I reckon you could stitch the 560 TX on top of a X1 receiver.

Thanks Phil.. The Olympus is secondary, really, but even discounting that doesn't make things much simpler.
My gut reaction was YN622, too.

Does the X1n / xtr16 combination do HSS?

I've got half an eye on either the Godox AD600 or Lencarta Superfasts for the future. I'm sure that doesn't help in the slightest!

Yes,I think it does.
Also the X1n will trigger the AD600 and the Superfasts (I'm guessing you knew that)

thanks - I'd guessed but didn't know that. And I hadn't spotted the x1n-r, that's the missing part for triggering studio strobes. There's not much difference in price between the x1n and the YN622 so that seems to be the way to go.

I'm in the same situation at the moment simon trying to give options to pair my lencartas which use the wavesync system with my yn-560 iii's. I've not bought all parts yet so cant'guarantee this will work but in theory at least my solution is yn-603's as an intemediary.

Use a 603 on camera then the wavesync on it via pass through the 603 will trigger the 560's and the 560tx will still allow control of power. If you need supersync as well the option would then be 603 on camera, 622tx on 603 put a second 603 under the wavesync to trigger it. It starts getting a lot more convoluted quickly.

I may just sell my yongnuos and invest in some godox speedlights that use the wavesync system but it's gonna carry a fairly big hit to the poscket if I do.

The lack of a standard is annoying, isn't it?
My immediate need is for something I can rock up to someone else's studio with and just have it work when any triggers they supply don't.
If the same system does HSS with the AD360 then that's a big plus.

I can nearly always use the YN560s in slave mode when I'm mixing them with other things so the simplest thing would be to keep the 560TX in my pocket to adjust the power. If I ever feel the need for TTL I'd probably make the jump to Godox.

The X1 system will but the receivers are a luxury price for dumb triggers, we need someone to devise a hack for the xt16 USB to a jack plug.
