Can you light paper from behide

It's a quick question can you light white paper from behide like you can muslin?

In theory, yes, in practice no.

I've done it with a 6000Ws flash, it just about worked.

Yes, but it'd have to be very thin and the ambient light VERY low to be noticeable

Damn...... At the min I'm lighting white fabric with speed lights from behide and getting reasonable results with only little amount of PP.... But I'm just about to invest in some seamless white paper as I want the extra width for home studio.... I'm in the process of saving my pennies for some studio strobes.... Somthing like the smartflash starter kit they you guys sell is what I have in mind.....

Why not just use the speedlights to light it from the front...

That's what I going to do its just the light spread isnt great

Two speedlights set to 24mm should give fairly even coverage, but the devil is in the details , positioning, flagging etc.

why will the spread be different from behind?

Also, if you light from infront, the background will be a reflector (and the angle of reflection can be altered If you light from behind, it becomes a light source, which will radiate light in all directions
