Media hype. 'Ordinary' eclipses are old hat and boring.
'Super blood wolf moon' when I looked a few minutes ago................ffs!
I'm an astronomer. It's a lunar eclipse. At least I'm an astronomer with a good sense of humour and it gave me a giggle. I await someone telling me how great it was with bated breath because someone's remembered to press 'recalc' on the Met Office computer and now it's going to be cloudy all night.
How can I bear to miss it..............?

Very true. If you can give something an exciting sounding name (well its apparently exciting sounding according to those who named it) it must be better. Started well here today but got cloudier so looks unlikely there will be much to see tomorrow morning, ah well.
Just looked at the names(from some Native American tribes) for the full moon of other months. It a good job tomorrow's event isn't happening in March. The March full moon is the worm moon - we could have had a blood worm moon!

Well, I saw it briefly this morning when I was walking the dog before going to work (5:35am); there was a small opening in the cloud cover that was about 7/8 to 8/8 otherwise, that allowed me to see almost all of the moon in the supposed "red" but which to me was more brownish, but it was unusual and if there had been more of a chance of no cloud, it would have merited some photography. It was only visible for about 2 minutes, with the first shafts of reflected sunlight coming off the limb as it disappeared back behind the clouds. When I was walking from the car to the station at 6:35 the full moon was completely clear of clouds and quite normal of course.

The colour is quite variable and depends on a number of factors including how 'deep' the eclipse is, ie how close to the centre of the Earth's shadow the Moon passes. Mostly it is more of a browny red, though can be a deep red. Something that can't be predicted in advance. But at least you saw something of it. Here the weather had obviously had enough of the media bigging it up and just hid it. Do I care? No. Seen plenty.

There's an old Norwegian hippy (apparently the Norwegian equivalent to Shakin' Stevens) who plays a set at a bar we might frequent in Crete. One of the songs he covers is this. The bar's pretty busy and it's not rare to have a hundred or so pished Scandiwegians shouting the refrain.
