can someone point out if this is normal for a photo

taken with a canon 400D kit lens, iv set the sharpen up to the max but as i went through my photos i notice that the straigh lines seem to be jagged, i took the photo randomly with out a tripod, but iv never realised this befor!

erm it was alot worse on my laptop befor i uploaded it, maybe *** the size??? im not sure
 
your description sounds like you've oversharpened the image, which you probably will have if you set it to max.......
 
By your description it sounds like you have an aliased image. This is usually a result of the way you resize the image. Try using different software to re size and see if that fixes the problem.
 
....or more likely you were viewing it on your laptop at more or less than 100%. Uploading it would have sized it normally...

Probably correct. If you are using Photoshop to view and edit your images, certain % of sizes ie 17.3%, 26.4%, 48.1% and so on do not look the best so it is best to view them at whole numbers, 25% 50% etc. It is a PS thing and I do believe they are trying to resolve it for CS4.

Google photoshop viewing sizes and you get a load of geeky stuff about why it happens.
 
The problem is you shop at ALDI. You need to shop at John Lewis...........

i dont shop at Aldi, i was there to buy some snakes while i was out. it was nasty. i couldent even find normal coke lol
 
I shop at Aldi, the coke they sell tastes better than real coke at 20% of the price.

I'm not a snob when it comes to value for money:D

Incidentally, in addition to the above excellent comments... If you're using photoshop to resize your images smaller, make sure you have 'resample image' ticked and set it to 'Bicubic Sharper (best for reduction)'... it does make a difference! :)

What is it with Aldi? it seems to me its cheaper at Asda. BTW my shots always look over sharp when i but them on my crap little lcd. Look so much better on the old CRT monitor.
 
no i ment that online it auto scales it to fit your monitor, when i put in on pc its huge.
