hi
a friend took this pic of my baby, I really really like it on the screen but have had it printed from photobox website and it looks very reddish on the actual printed photo that has arrived - why would this happen and is there anything I can do? (Baby does have ginger hair by the way so his hair should show red but on the photo his body does too, but it doesnt when I view it on the PC). Also can anyone do a B&W conversion on it for me? Friend has done one but not 100% sure its the best result possible.

Thank you
LIZ

Its the way it looks on here that I like, photo is very different, dont know if I should just ask photobox to print it again to see what happens?....

It looks very red on a calibrated screen, so I would be wondering if your screen calibration is out of kilter? If you don't mind, I can run it through ps and show you how it should look, but bear in mind it will then look odd on your screen if it is your screen that needs adjustment.

2 versions...

colour, some adjustment but not massive, guessing as a red head, he is on the pink side anyway in terms of skin tones.

and a mono conversion, see how it compares to what your friend has done

Thank you, your B&W version is much better, think my friend has played around too much with exposure (possibly? dont really know if I am honest), anyway yours looks better, also like your colour one. Could you email the high res versions to me & I will send off to photobox again?

I could, but can't guarantee they will print well, they are still small images, but feel free to try.

OK thank you. I can email you the original photo from CD if that would make a better quality image?

Hi Campergirl,
Do you have any photoediting software at all? I am wondering, if Yv is game, that perhaps she can send you how she made the modifications to your image? I found on my system, that it was printing out badly due to no calibration, so in the end, I edited my photos so they looked good on my screen, then applied modifications, i.e. brightness+100 to my files before sending them off. This made the images come back a lot better, and was reasonably repeatable.

I have got photoshop but dont know how to use it to be honest!

Reddish on my screen as well...

I don't know whether I managed to match Yvonne's adjustments

I didn't feather the selections, you might need to on a higher-res image.
Image ->Adjustments->Hue / Saturation: Saturation -40

Use 'Quick select' To select backgound.
Layer ->New Adjustment Layer->Brightness/Contrast
(should auto-mask new layer to background)

Set Brightness to -100

Select->Reselect
Select->Inverse

Layer ->New Adjustment Layer->Brightness/Contrast
Set Brighness to -10, Contrast +30

Just a thought, bearing in mind some of the other threads on here and copyright. Has your friend given their permission for the image to be posted here and adjusted by others :shrug:

Yes its fine she is happy with it.

Auto adjust on the photobox website helps a bit with colour correction, but its best to get monitor calibrated and print your own.

I was never happy with photobox printing
