Can someone let me know if they see any good black Friday deals for laptop or desktop?

I'm looking at a fast machine with a decent screen for editing. Storage isn't important at all as I have numerous hard drives but I've a budget of around 700.

I started looking but don't know anything about laptop screens or quality monitors.

I've just looked at the non photographic classifieds and there's an apple Mac mini quad core i7 machine for 600 ish. Is this a good deal? I know I'd need a monitor and have to factor that in but is the computer okay? Maybe a totally daft question but can I use a television for a monitor? I mean a regular 4k 32 inch telly?

most of the stuff I have seen over the years has been overly expensive stuff that isn't great value or entry level stuff that is pretty awful.
check out sites like laptops direct and look for those od ones that just get reduced to clear.
laptop market is over saturated and stocks need shifting

Thanks Michael. Do you know anything about the screen?

Thanks Michael. Do you know anything about the screen?

39.6 cm (15.6") diagonal FHD SVA anti-glare WLED-backlit (1920 x 1080)

Resolution is OK, but I'd guess it's a TN panel with narrow viewing angles, otherwise they'd likely list it.

Thanks. So it's nothing special in other words. Good enough for editing though?

It could be acceptable for editing, though a 15" screen could not be considered good, even when QHD like my Dell XPS, simply because it's too small.

You mentioned a Mac mini - if you don't care about windows vs Mac then I'd grab that + a Dell U2412M (24" 1920 X 1200 - usefully taller than HD) for about £200 from Aria.co.uk instead of a laptop. I use a U2412M as my editing screen, plugging in the XPS, and for a 'cheap' monitor it's really good.

Thanks mate. That's really helpful. I'm getting totally sick of windows 10 so that's maybe the way ahead.

Just get a Mac mini and screen, you won’t regret it.

Edit: there’s a good one in the classifieds now.

Nice, but I don't have electric teeth! :exit:

you know where the door is:wave:

seriously tho my wife is a dental hygienist and she says this is an absolute steal at this price.

Just a warning for everyone, if you see ads for super cheap refurbished laptops on Facebook, it’s a scam :police:. You might see them under Cumpuerstore (not a typo) or Innovative Products, or a few others apparently. I was thinking the prices were simply too good to be true. Their ‘about us’ page is almost pure cut and paste from Tier1online, who appears to be a legit refurb laptop retailer.

I was/am looking for a new PC/laptop as well, as my current one was a cheapy that chugs badly on Lightroom. But £189 for a top notch refurb Alienware laptop, I don’t think so. Google “Cumpuerstore Asset Management” you’ll find a few things on reddit and trustpilot, etc.

To be fair I wouldn't advise anyone to buy much on facebook, except maybe the odd local pickup deal in your Town.
Recently me and mrs bump have done a massive declutter of bump villas and we sold loads to local people on our town facebook page.
