Can somebody work out the MPG of my car???

This is true

Sadly leaving it on permanently is also likely to put more wear on the compressor bearings.

I generally run it on a weekly basis and for demisting in winter.

That is a concern that I have been thinking about actually.

I wonder if the chap who done mine suggested leaving it on BECAUSE it will wear out quicker, potentially bringing in more business for him :suspect:

You dont have to run the aircon all of the time - sounds like an urban myth to me.

Good quality a/c parts are designed to withstand a wide variety of usage patterns.

You should however use your a/c periodically (even if only for short periods) to stop what is effectively mould building up in the system due to condensation in the pipe. When this forms it causes an unpleasant damp smell from your a/c.

To measure fuel economy properly do the following:

Fill the car up with fuel until it is full. Reset your trip counter to zero. Drive until the car is low on fuel. Then refill the tank until it is full again. Then do the following calculation:

(Miles on trip counter / number of litres taken to refill the tank) * 4.54

Each time your refill the tank reset the trip counter to zero and start again.

Nice one, thanks mate.

I might stop using it so much now :D

Continuously seems like overkill to me as well, but at least once a week for 30 minutes or more is recommended by Ford, aircon manufacturers and specialist installers...

i have mine on all the time and just adjust the temp to suit how warm or cold it is outside and dont think it uses as much fuel as some people try to make out (find going a few mph more has a bigger effect).

Oh yes..., just going from the speedo-indicated 70 (or 108kph by TomTom's estimate) to 75 (118kph) decreases my MPG from 36 to 32. Pop up to 80 (125kph) and it drops to 30mpg...

I've been trying to economise on my daily commute and I've got it down to 8.3 litres per 100kph from my previous "I don't care about the cost, I like going fast" 12 litres per 100km...lol

Got a nice app on the iPhone for measuring fuel consumption plus other stuff.
Called RoadTrip.
Currently the Freelander is averaging 34.5mpg for daily runs.
Dropped to 27mpg when towing the caravan down south for the holiday and 25mpg for the trip back when i set the cruise control at 55mph.

That's because it's uphill?

the compressor on my mondeo seized, never did repair it, the engine expired before I got that far. Im hoping the focus will be moving on before the hot weather returns, so i wont have to worry about it.
