Can I use this lens with a Digital Camera?

Just pulled out this lens and was bought with my EOS-5 and wonder if it can be used with a digital camera.

The box reads as follows:

Sigma 28-80mm F3.5-5.6 Mini Zoom Macro Aspherical High speed AF for Canon AF :thinking:
 
Since nobody has answered I'll have a stab - try it on the camera. Canon EOS mounts are all EF so it will fit any Canon EOS DSLR. Whether the electronic functions will work is debateable. Sigma will be able to tell you, and may even be able to rechip the lens. That's as much as I know!
 
It will physically fit and In theory it should work. However, some older Sigma lenses are not forward compatible with some newer bodies due to the fact that they 'reverse engineer' the (secret) Canon specification and don't always get it right!
I think most new ones are ok as they have just about caught-up with the specification/electronics by now.

Just try it - if you get error messages or it doesn't function as it should you could contact Sigma as they do 're-chip' some newer lenses to make them compatible.
 
Some Sigma lenses can be rechipped to work with dSLR but not all - anything thats over 8 years old you can consider none compatible - it will fit, but only operate as a manual lens
 
I am concerned if it will damage the body if I stick in the lens. Any ideas?
 
If it is an EOS mount then it will physically fit, does the mount collar look the same as your other lenses? Like said above the only possible problem you may face is being an older lens it may not function, Sigma do "rechip" certain older lenses to work with newer bodies but not sure if they charge for that. Try it and see.
 
Sigma charges about £45 for a rechip - i asked about 4 years ago, an old 28-200mm zoom i had on an EF film camera, but couldn't be chipped

Great. Will check with them and see if the price has remained the same but I am guessing maybe not :gag:
 
will almost certainly work at full aperture
if you try and stop down prob90 you'll get ERR99
