Can I use another copy of vista to do a fresh install ?

I am about to try to use the 'recovery' partition on my Dell laptops hard drive to do a fresh install but just want to check - if it fails for whatever reason (ie I mess it up !) then can I use another copy of vista - ie can buy or borrow a copy but use my licence number ?
I don't actually know anyone who has a copy but assume I must be able to borrow or buy a copy and do want to keep it all legal - my knowledge of such things in nil, and I am just the sort of person who would get caught if I tried to do anything illegal so don't try !

Yes, you can use anyone's CD as long as you use your own serial / product key. What version of vista is it? I might be able to send you a copy for nowt if I have the right one!

If it is a Dell pc then I am sure it would be an OEM version. This is then fine. As long as you use the right version with the right product key.
 
It is an OEM copy of vista home premium.
If you do have it adri86 and are willing to send it I would be very grateful, more than happy to pay whatever either to you or a charity and then return it if you want it back !
