I bet whatever he has taken looks absolute toilet though!

There are some right arrogant ******s on this forum.

If that bloke is happy and is recording an image of his day out, what has it got to do with you? Maybe he has more skill with his iPad than you do with your dslr.

Who is to say he wasn't recording ti to cover it for someone on the Internet or something as well. Can't easily instantly transmit stuff from a DSLR can we..?

He's just a bloke at an airshow. He's not a photographer.. leave the poor guy alone :)

I certainly wouldn't bring my iPad to take photos with at special events . . .

. . . only because it is an iPad 2 and the camera on it is a bit rubbish. :D

Photography aside, the folks behind him are probably really happy about his choice of camera...

I see more and more of posts like these on this forum. Why is it when some people get an slr in their hands they think they can do better? I've seen photos taken with iphones that have been better than some photos I've seen on this forum. And the person who took the photo with the slr thinks its worthy of broadcasting, when it truly isn't. Who cares what you used to capture a great image,As long as it's captured is all that matters.

It's the same with the X brand vs Y brand vs Z brand. Its a box with a sensor in it with some glass in the way to focus an image. Same as an ipad/phone.

I'm 25, I grew up in the digital age of photography. There has been soo many avenues to explore when it comes to capturing photos. And so many more people are able to afford cameras. Photography is no longer an elitists game, everyone can afford to play now, and I think its great as you're never more that a foot away from a camera.

It's a macho thing. Like driving... all blokes are excellent drivers.. did you know that? :)

It wasn't a kit snob thing, but how the hell can u see the screen in bright sun. My iPhone would be crap at taking these types of pics. An iPad is hardly portable either.

You and I both know what was taken probably looks carp.
I have no issues with him using an ipad I don't care he uses and ipad, I was only commenting on his picture. I find it funny someone holding up and ipad of all things to take a picture.
But please don't call me and arrogant ******t don't assume I'm preaching to everyone who doesn't own an SLR they are wrong and I'm right you REMOVED

Think about it - he instantly gets to see how his image will look when framed. Smart. ;) :P

This was my first thought. You can see there's a guy right behind him, his view is blocked .. if there's any arrogance regarding this it's the guy using such a large device in the front row - use yer phone fgs ...

End of the day its everyone to there own, That guy paid good hard earned money for his ipad and its upto him how he wants to use it.

If however he came on here posting his photos and asking for opinions then it would be a different matter.

Quite true. But whilst he is watching the crappy screen of his i-pad, he is missing out on the real life event happening in front of him.

Just as many parents do videoing their child's first birthday, sports day, first steps walking, etc. recording them for future viewing whilst missing the actual event.

Think about it - he instantly gets to see how his image will look when framed.

More likely, he instantly gets to see what his picture would look like on an i-pad (until he deletes it).

Using an ipad as a camera always seems daft, as normally the type of people who own an iPad have an equally capable cameraphone

Steve.

But its his choice to do whatever he wants with it surely.

I've never actually tried the ipad for shooting, but done it last week at the pool on holiday as I was listening to music on it anyway
Not fantastic, but I would happily fill a few shots and use it as a digital frame for the memory. It's true that the best camera you have, is the one you have with you

ahahahahahahahahaha omg close your laptops go and fetch a beer all of you.

It really annoys me (in one of those irrational ways) people using an iPad as a camera. Not because im a snob just because my mind truly boggles as to why you would think that its a good idea. I would say 99 out of 100 people who do it also have an iPhone which will take equally as good pictures and just be easier in very possible way, you even sync them so all the photos go to your iPad as soon as you get to WIFI anyway.

Equally good or equally poor?

Personally, I wouldn't use a tablet of any brand for airshows but then again, I have access to a good DSLR. Like others, I don't object to anyone using whatever they've got for the job but since he appears to be blocking other people's view with the thing, I do object to him (and I would object just as much to an SLR user with a massive telephoto blocking other people's views and [as I've seen] clouting people with the lens...)

How good is the sound recording using an iPad? I'd rather hear a Merlin than see the plane it's in (and 6 is even better!)

They don't mention the sound recording ability in the iPad specs (I would think its more likely to have been video than stills by the way he is holding it).

Video recording is

Video Recording
1080p HD video recording
Video stabilization
Face detection
Tap to focus while recording
Backside illumination

That's the modern equivalent of wearing a top hat in the cinema!

What, my iPad is portable - it weights nothing and fits into every bag I own :cuckoo:

Who cares what someone is using, if they want a photo and only have a phone or iPad on them, then why should be judge them?

Video recording is

I agree. But that wouldn't have been so amusing to the OP.

He could have been after the oil seed rape shot.

Only missing the real life event as much as the OP using his camera.

I've seen some annoyingly good (read: better than my) photos taken using camera phones and tablets. I can't hold anything that light steady enough :(

Only an issue if blocking other people's views.

I will admit though, they never look comfortable, I noticed a few at the zoo last time using them and it looked clumsy to hold for photos.

Exactly the same applies to a dSLR or any other camera.
Yours is an argument against taking photographs, not an argument against taking photographs with an ipad.

It's a stupid argument anyway. A false dichotomy. You can quite clearly both enjoy the event in front of your own eyes and take a few photographs. One doesn't have to (and rarely does) exclude the other.

I think most people will enjoy the day a lot more carrying an iPad rather than a DSLR where they are going to have to faff around changing lenses, making sure the settings are correct and then editing the photos. On the ipad its one button and then straight to instagram.

If people have a problem with this, it's because they are sad little people with nothing better in their lives.

I'd always take a happy-snapper with an ipad in front of me at the zoo over the self-important bellends who turn up with a tripod, big dSLR and a big aperture telephoto, hogging the best viewing spots for ages and acting like the zoo is their own personal photoshoot.

I'd ban tripods and big lenses from zoos and the like. No need. Selfishness.
