A couple of weeks ago I bought elements 9, however this evening i have bought a new laptop that comes with elements 8 already installed on it. My question is can i upgrade the elements 8 to element 9 at a price lower than the full elements 9? Also, is it worth the extra expense or would u just stick with the elements 8 and get a refund on version 9? My only train of thought was that with elemtns 9 being the latest release most of the magazine articles etc will now refer to the latest version and seeing as i am a newby to this it might make it more difficult to find magazine tutorials etc.

I know it might sound a bit confusing, if ** unsre what i mean just ask me to explain it a bit better! Any advice would be a great help.

Thanks

Kristian

I'd buy an upgrade version and take back the full price retail Elements 9. Also think it is worth upgrading as there are some tight new features in Elements 9 like the trimmed back version of CS5's content aware stuff.

You say you have already bought elements 9, then why not just install that on the new laptop ???

As there's an opportunity to return the full retail Elements 9 and buy the cheaper Elements 9 upgrade pack instead.

Why should/would they give the money back for Element 9 which was bought several weeks ago, it's certainly not a faulty product.

Plus your not saving a huge amount anyway as from the Adobe store

Upgrade £63.46
Full (which you have) £ 77.46

A £14 difference minus the time and cost in returning the version you have, just not worth the bother.

Was going to say what's the harm in saying you've just bought a laptop, it has E8 and asking whether they would exchange E9 for an upgrade (still a sale to them and would demonstrate good customer service) but noticed you said there's only a £14 difference so I think I'd just keep E9 too. Not worth the bother returning whether it be posting, petrol, parking etc.

Thanks all for the replies. I think I will probably just install the new one. The real reason for my initial query was was it worth the extra expense of elements 9 if elements 8 was still pretty good in its own right. However with ** advise, and some from a friend, I will stop being tight and stick with elements 9 which ive already purchased! Ive read, and been told, that there is quite a considerable difference between the two, obviously with 9 being the better one. Now to start getting to grips with it..........

Thanks again

We use both. Elements 9 has very little real advantage over 8, it does have layer masks if you like mucking around with your images a lot, then so does 8 with a little sleight of hand.
The real advantage with 9 is on the Mac platform which finally gets the brilliant organiser for the first time, so if your lappy's a Mac, go for 9.

I thought I read in one of the photo magazines that if you have v8 it wasn't worth upgrading to v9 as you weren't going to gain a lot.

Doesn't seem so long ago since I upgraded to v8!

Amazon have the upgrade price at £63.46 and the full program at £58.64, which seems to be arse about face to me.
