Hi all

Does anyone know if a device exists that could fire the shutter of the camera by detecting an off camera flash

really hope someone can help with this :help:

What is it that you are actually trying to achieve?
Prob outdoor off lighting , or i could be wrong , it is a good idea to have a remote flash for say .. a zoo shot or lighting a harsh shadow you want in frame too. remote flashes are not a must but come in handy at times. They do cost a bit extra , but I would get more creative first and use the sun or a lamp to bring out features in the subject, and remember the onboard flash can be adjusted . :)

The op ask for something that would trigger a camera from a flash, not a flash from a camera ;)

I'd imagine it would be possible to rig something up using Pocket Wizards, but unless you have them already then it's £££

It's an idea for a project :) A kind of highlighting night scenes with light using a high power torch and flash but at a fair distance from the camera and keeping the exposures short and layering them up in PS :D I already tried using a wireless shutter release, which half works but it's not ideal :D

Thanks

Pocket wizards work at a range of up to 1600 feet....but the minimum you need is two of them and the cheapest you'll get them from now is just under £300 a pair :bonk:

I wish I'd bought more when the pound was strong!

Thanks Flash
I guess this project is going to be too expensive  Thanks anyway

Much appreciated folks

Maybe best to cut your coat according to your cloth and work within the range of the gear you already have. If you were nearby you could have tried my PWs though ;)

I agree, as I said 'just an idea' Thanks again

you have to bear in mind that a typical flash lasts 1/1000 seconds and typically a camera has a shutter lag of 35-50ms.

It's gonna make things tricky unless you're using an electronic shutter with the curtain open..
