Can I remove a shadow?

I took this shot of my dogs on Saturday that I quite like. However the shadow cast from the black one across the pup's face spoils it.

So is it possible in either Photoshop or Lightroom to remove the shadow and keep the detail of her mouth intact?

Yes but it won't be perfect if scrutinised closely.

Photoshop CS5, selected the area with magic wand, 2pixels feather then upped the exposure rather than worked it with levels.
Little bit of clone stamp on the edge of the selection.

All this could be done with free Gimp too.

Thanks, I've got Photoshop 10 and Lightroom. I guess it can be done on there too.
 
Think Simon means Elements 10.
