Can i photoshop out the knot in wood?

Today i took a picture of a friend of mine memorial bench to try and get a nice shot for her mum.

I got the shot i wanted, it may not be amazing but i think its nice, but there is a message engraved and the picture is ruined because the last line is over a knot in the wood so i want to try and remove it from a black and white image.

Is it possible?
 
It's pretty hard to say without seeing the image, you can fix most things with time and effort though.

Some very careful cloning may work.
 
If it's a memorial bench, I wouldn't even dream of altering it in that way. Present the engraving as it exists in real life.
 
I thought that. If anything I just want to lighten it so its a little easier to read

In that case it shouldn't be too difficult but as Wayne says we need to see the image.
 
Il try the dodge tool and see how I get on

This particular image I'm trying to keep offline but if it doesn't work il upload it
