Not to sure if I have posted in the right section sorry if I haven't,

I am setting up a mini studio photobooth, so with a backdrop and I take pics, I am just concerned as to generate business and advertise I was going to put all the photpgraphs that I take at events on my facebook page so people can like and share (I will have a disclaimer displayed stating that anyone having their photo taken is agreeing to have the photo uploaded to facebook) Is this enough or should I be getting another form of consent, thank you to all who can help me

:):):):)

There is a business forum on here which might get you more answers. If people share them, how will you make money from it? Just a thought

You dont need any consent to display them on FB although having a sign letting them know is a good idea.. .. and as above.. how would you make money? people will just take off facebook..

agreed

My advice get yourself a website and sell from there- or take payment and e mail the image to buyer etc etc

Les ;)

Hi prouds and welcome to TP

Event photography is a mine field, mate, but one thing is for sure if you want to make any money then you need to print and sell on the day and if my own experience is anything to go by then the prints need to be ready within 30 minutes of the photos being taken. You can mitigate this slightly if you charge a small sitting fee which you then take off the price of the prints - it encourages people to come back for the print :D

The one thing you don't want to do is put them on FB. People think it's perfectly acceptable to just download and use them  They don't even care that it's small, low resolution and has a copyright notice on it :gag:

Hope that helps

Ah thanks guys, what it is am doing an event where as people will have their pictures taken in the mini studio and I will print them and they can buy on the night, but what I wanted to do as a way of advertising was have a disclaimer on the table stating 'that by having their photograph taken in the photobooth they are agreeing for them to be uploaded to facebook' what I want to try and achieve from this is word of mouth really as people can tag themselvesand their friends generating more likes for my page, if that makes sense.

I am just concerned that I shouldn't be doing it this way and should I be getting signatures or??

As I will be taking pictures of children I am thinking I would need to get their parents permission or just the event organiser to say its fine, I am going on now as its confusing lol!!

Any advice much appreciated guys Jo :):)

This whole copyright stuff confuses me, I don't mind if people want to get there own pictures off facebook at the moment as I am new to this, its more for the advertisng fact at the moment but what do you have to do if I did not want people to download? I take it I have took the pictures so I own copyright of them but if I just put on my disclaimer for now that they can have full copyright of them is that enough or do I have to do anything else, sorry for all the questions just like to get it right Jo :)

Jo,

You press the shutter release so you own the copyright. No photographer in their right mind gives away or sells their copyright - if you do then you can't use that image ever again. Allowing people to download the images doesn't involve giving away your copyright - you still keep it. What you might want to do is "license" people to download and use the images but be aware that you can't control who downloads what images from FB - it's a free for all with emphasis on the free :(

If you don't want people to download images from your FB page then the only simple answer is not to put them there in the first place.

With children involved I have always insisted on a parent signing a release form which details how I intend to use the images. You can always provide a form to gather names and addresses and add the release into the wording which, as usual, no-one will bother to read. It's a bit sneaky but covers all the bases.
