Can Canon EOS Utility open when a CF card is inserted?

When i plug my camera into the pc it automaticlly opens canon eos utility and downloads the photos from the card to wherever I pre-stated I wanted them all to go each time.

However if I put the cf card into the reader in the pc, nothing happens and I have to go into my computer find the drive copy them all then go into my photo folder make a dated folder and paste them in. Anyone got a way of getting eos utility to open when i put a cf card in the pc??

Its ok I cant do EXACTLY what I want but if I right click the card drive and click on autoplay it gives me the option of what I want to do with the photos each time. EOS Utility isnt on the list, but I chose Canon Camera Window instead, so all is well.

You can add things to the autoplay list but it means editing the registry - if you have found a way round the problem I'd leave well alone

can you not get it to do it by inserting the card into the reader, searching for the reader and selecting the card....then using the Open with option?

There should be a tick to make windoze always open that type of file with the selected program.


I might be well off the mark though as i don't have that software or a seperate card reader.

yes but eos utility isnt on the list and there is no option to add other programs to that list.

That's where the registry editing comes in - only way to add other programs to that list.

Stand by to rebuild that PC unless you know what you are doing
I'm no novice on PC's (do an IT type job in real life) but walk very carefuly when fiddling in the registry.
