Have had various card readers that seem to pack up after a while, can anyone recommend a decent quality card reader?
Cheers

Cheers both

I did a search and completely missed that one :bonk::bang:

Will try the sandisk one me thinks

I have a Sandisk ImageMate card reader and can highly recommend it. Only around £15 too :D

I read somewhere about card readers using a firewire port, are these much faster than USB 2 ?

Another vote for the cheap 7 Day Shop reader, I have one and so does my Daughter both are very reliable it seems.

Firewire is much faster than USB2, although whether you'll notice the difference also depends a lot on your machina, the CF card and the firewire card ;)

Is it for a laptop or desktop? If it's for a laptop you could look into one of the PCI-E or PCmCIA card adapters that slot into the side of your laptop. Ultra fast transfers especially the PCI-E ones and no need for cables!

It would be for my desktop dell 5150 i normally use sandisk extreme 3 or 4 sd/cf cards, so where is a good place to buy one of these from.

I got a SanDisk Extreme III 4GB SDHC recently from play.com, which comes with a reader (for SD only).

12-18 months ago a 2GB card off fleabay worked OK but was identified as a fake when a genuine SanDisk arrived. However, the genuine article wouldn't work in any of my then current card readers.

I did get one of the very cheap non branded ones at first, but it was a waste of time and would not read all my cards. So I spent a little more and got a Trust Multi Card reader, had no problems at all since.

I bought one for 6 quid from a local computer shop and it's been a beaut. Seems fast enough and does everything you'll ever need a card reader to do. It reads cards!
