Pretty much as per the title...

My better half things our little girl might like a camera as she likes playing with the ones on our phones. The thing is she is only 5 1/2 (just started Year 1 at school).

We've seen that kid-tuff thing, but it's age 3 up and well, looks babyish. However, an adult digital I am thinking would be either too complicated or too fragile. She still has no real concept of 'delicate' or 'expensive'.

Is there anything in between that anyone knows of?

I did read a review in one of my Magazines about one with the target auidence of the builder, point and shoot but for use in a building site, shock + dust proof i cant think just now but i know i will not get to sleep until i remember or find the mag it was in hope thats of some use.

hi not hijacking this thread but my daughter who is 8 years old has taken a liking to photography and so has her cousin so i will watch this thread with intrest.

I feel there needs to be a balance of what dads camera has and there's what about the canon G series?????

My children need to be able to use it point and shoot to keep there interest and from there it holds there attention, a 3" screen would be good as well with there own equipment and hours of time they could home in there skills as photography is a blend of many arts and crafts with a healthy dose of good imagination is needed, my children also need to experiment with AV TV P M modes and with a built in flash although with the G series i believe you can mount a 580ex, so it seams a good allrounder.

I have an Immaculate one of these kicking about somewhere, with a case etc. You are welcome to pass it onto her free of charge if its of any use? Its got a tilting lcd screen so she can compose better with it.

Just let me know if you're interested and I'll dig it out.

Wow, many thanks Kev. It would be rude to refuse an offer like that. Drop me a PM when you've dug it out, and if you've got a paypal address let me know and i'll wing some reddies over in your direction to cover expenses etc.

And thanks to everyone else who's replied. I think the idea of cheap (or free) second hand cameras is a good idea. Let her have a play and if it does get damaged it's not the end of the world. :)

A £250 camera for an 8 year old

how about an Olympus mu850?
Drop proof, and waterproof. Picture quality is good too
Easy to use as ps but limited manual control.

Had mine a couple of months and haven't broke it yet

 I didnt like to say that. I thought it might just be me, being tight!

Don't get me wrong I'm as tight as they come, and very proud of well known in our family wouldn't like people to get the wrong impression, about my generosity.
