Can anyone recommend a camera for a child?

Yes
My daughter is 6 soon and really wants a camera for her birthday. She has a fisher price childs camera, but has now given that to her 2 year old sister & would like a 'real one'. It was great when she was 3, but not quite up to what she needs now. She loves taking photographs & often uses her dads little Kodak easyshare.

Can anyone recommend a camera that's easy to use, doesn't suffer too much from camera shake, 4mp+, flash, preview screen, under £100.

Also, I would like to get her a basic photo editting package. I guess something might come with the camera, but a childs package might be easier for her to understand.

Any ideas?

Don't underestimate kids abilities with things like cameras and software you might find that the normal stuff you use is fine. As for cameras how gentle/careful is she? Thats the most important thing. If she is generally careful then you can pick up a point and shoot from a supermarket for £60, I bought a Samsung 10mpx point and shoot for my eldest for parties etc.

Both my kids have been actively encouraged to use Photoshop they can use M$ Paint if they wanted to as that is always there but prefer using PS  They will only pick up bad habits using M$ Paint or other programs in my opinion.

Both can make their own artwork and drawings and play around in PS now most of the time, it's surprising how easy it is for them to pick it up and my nine year old does her own pp in Photoshop now too  Jadey started out using a Vivitar P&S then moved on to our IXUS :runaway: She now has her own D70s and handles it fairly well. Joseph my five year old is very conversant with Iphone, wii, 360 and IXUS and anything else he can get his hands on :) And no he doesn't have a clue where my D300 is kept

Loads of P&S offers @ argos for under £80 to get your daughter started :)

I'd suggest a Fuji Bridge. They are excellent, pretty rugged, and they offer much more control i terms of zoom and exposure, as and when she grows into it.

next year I'm gonna get my niece a 350d, she has a zenit atm and can use it great (teaching her darkroom soon). The only real reason I got her started on film first was funding tbh

How many times have you asked the kids to show you how the tv remote works ? Give them a p.c. and some software and just watch what the "lil darlings" can do in no time.
:)

Just saw a 5 MP Kodak P&S with printer in Boots for £25 !!

If my daughter was older I would have bought her it as for £25 who cares...

Buy a cheap P&S off ebay and get a spare at the same time.
