As per the title, I'm involved with a horse rescue and rehoming charity and last night one of our horses had a very bad ashma attack.

That emergency has been dealt with, but we're now out of nebuliser fluid for him and will need more, we deal with two veterinary practices but they are both temporarily out of stock. Of course, if it was for a human then we could get it via the NHS.

Obviously, I'm more than happy to pay postage, if anyone can help, please PM me.

Edit: BTW, it won't matter if it's a bit out of date.

Have you tried the Vet Schools/Colleges ?

Not yet, the weekend probably wasn't the best time but now that we're on to a normal working day we can try that, although they may be closed because of the virus.

My thoughts were that there may be an ashma sufferer on here who has some spare, possibly out of date, that could keep us going until our vets can get hold of some in the normal way.

I suspect that the Hospitals attached to the Vet Schools will still be working - animals still need attention/surgery

We'll try that of course, we still need it but there are more choices now that it isn't the middle of the night at a weekend. It's possible that although the 2 on-call vets that we spoke to had none, their practices do. After all, this is a common problem, which is why we normally hold some ourselves. What isn't common is that we had to use up our entire stock in that one incident.

Meanwhile Willy (the horse) is inside and eating slop instead of normal hay (we think that he may have eaten straw spread on the ground to deal with the mud) and although not normal, is now much better.

@Garry Edwards

Garry, both the sites I linked to in post #2 show availability (i.e. can be put in the shopping basket/ordered?) of various nebuliser liquids including saline on the breatheazy site. Or have I misunderstood what is "nebuliser fluid" ???

Yes, I think that these links should solve the problem, but I've had to leave dealing with it to the person who's on the spot, she's the expert here. I haven't chased her today because she's busy - it's a tiny charity and has been hit hard by the Covid-19 virus, with both paid staff away because of family symptons, none of the usual foreign students helping out there for obvious reasons, one of the trustees (normally there full time) stuck in Spain and unable to get back, and I've been spending every alternative week there but have had to stay at home. I "should" have driven down there this morning and if I had been able to do so then I would have called into any pharmacy on the way to pick up supplies.

On a charity like ours all of the daily jobs are done during daylight hours, she will see what can be done via the internet after dark.

Fingers crossed that all can be sorted out to avoid the same situation of using up all the available in-house supply! But hopefully you will not faced with such a poorly horse again any time soon.

Thanks for the suggestions, but I'm going to have to give up on this one.
It seems that the chemical bronchodilator fluid is currently unavailable because it is part of the treatment for Covid-19 so, naturally enough, the NHS has bought all the available stock. The vet injected the horse with steroids yesterday and hopefully that will keep him going.
